It wouldn't be fair to describe Jazzique Chiverton as a new kid on the block. He's been a core member of the vibrant St. Kitts and Nevis music scene for the past 15 years, as producer, arranger, band leader and studio keyboard wizard.

REVIVING OUR STRING BAND ROOTS
The strong pulsating rhythms of string band music , like other Caribbean music forms, Kaiso, Soca, Reggae, Zouk etc. is a derivative of Kalindula to which originated in
West Africa over 5, 000 years ago. It's most distinctive instruments, the bamboo fife
and the banjo – are in fact Africa’s gift to the world.

String Band from Anguilla
The custom of Kalindula music moving throughout the territories of West Africa
entertaining from royalty to grassroots is a practise that has survived among Caribbean string band musicians up to this day.

The Majestic Oualians String Band
Genre: String Band Music
Island: Nevis
The String Band in its present form, was introduced to Nevis in 1900’s when young Nevisian who had migrated to the Spanish speaking territories like Cuba, Dominican Republic, Panama etc. in search of work, returned home with the knowledge and skill and instruments of this unique art form.
The Spanish names for many of the instruments - the Banjo (remaned), Cuatro, Guiro, Baja (pronounced “baho”) are testament of this fact. Through the creative and innovative spirit of many musicians past and present, Nevisian String Band music has evolved into one of the most authentic indigenous music forms in the world.
