Apple also offers mac.com addresses for free to Apple Macintosh OS9
users. You actually only need to use a Mac to sign up- you can use it
from amy internet savvy OS/computer. It's not web-based, but uses POP3
and maybe IMAP. If you want web based, use a yahoo client to check it
via POP, and if you don't want (@mac.com) there are free email
forwarding services out there.
Good luck,
Jim

You can check a hotmail account with Outlook Express. Outlook support
was originally part of Office 2000 SR-1 (service release 1) but was
dropped. Maybe I've just missed it, but I haven't heard any news on
when or if it will be finished.

Before you consider Hotmail, check out the following link. I have not been
able to access my Hotmail account since Friday. Others have not been able to
check their accounts since the previous Friday (12 days and counting). If
this is acceptable to you, by all means use Hotmail. I though it was OK
until this interminable fiasco. (On the other hand, Yahoo Mail has had
maximum outages of a few hours at most in my experience.)

Before you buy.
Yep, hotmail has a nice interface and has always worked quickly and
reliably for me. What I like is finding an inbox full of spam, and with
two clicks, I can block all the addresses. No fuss, no e-mailing
"remove" replies, no learning procmail, just two clicks.
