The application deadline is March 12 so we don't have a lot of time to
think about it, but I thought I would put out the idea.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Eric
Good idea, and I also think that in the 2 months much could be achieved.
We also have a concrete idea of the goal and implementation, so the
student wouldn't get lost. But do we have enough time for the mentoring?
Peter
Thanks for your responses. So maybe if a bunch of us all agree to be
mentors, we might be able to cover for one another when any one of us
gets really busy? If there are enough of us, then maybe we can assure
that a mentor will always be on hand.
I don't know what my schedule will be...I'm hoping I can at least put
in about the effort I've been doing so far, though I'm not sure if
that's enough, but I'm willing to put my name down if we can get a few
other volunteers to also. (Both Peters volunteering?) The more, the
merrier.
Yes, I might need help with the application. I will probably take a
crack at it late tonight, if we get a number of volunteers and a sense
we can really do this.
I'm looking forward to your module code. If you've been following the
thread on the sandboxing, I encourage you to publish a public sandbox
so we can take a look.
Thanks,
Eric
5. What tax related documentation is required from mentoring organizations?
We will need the following tax related documentation from mentoring
organizations:
* For organizations based in the United States, we will need a
completed IRS form W9.
* For organizations based outside the United States, we will need
a completed Foreign Certification form or IRS form W8-BEN.
Any idea how do deal with this, especially in a way that doesn't
expose any of us to undue financial burden? (i.e. pay for business
license, impact individual taxes/retirement/medical plans due to
having 'employees', etc).
Thanks,
Eric
Uff, interesting. Does this apply to non-profit organizations and
groups without an registered organization ?
pd
If you are the person who is going to spend the money then it is easy. The
W9 is a simple form, you fill it in and send it to google, at the end of the
year google sends you a tax form saying how much you made, you report the
income at the end of the year on your taxes and that is it.
Now if you are the organization (W9), but the money will go to someone else,
then effectively they become an employee or subcontractor of yours and it
gets more complicated. I think the trick is to have who is going to spend
the money be the organization and fill out the W9. That makes it easy.

I filled out an entry for this project here:

So everybody who volunteered to be a mentor, would you please
email jnwhiteh with your Google Account username so they have this
information for the application (ASAP). The application needs to be
submitted today.
Anybody else who would like to volunteer, please add your names.
Thanks,
Eric
Thanks, Eric!
I've edited it a bit.
But where could I find the complete adress of jnwhiteh?
Peter
found it.
