I was taking a break from my studies the other day and decided to let
the girls out in the backyard for a while. It's been really nice out
so any excuse to hang out in the sunshine is welcome. I opened the
door to the chicken run and proceeded to do some outdoor chores.
Every few minutes I do a visual check to take stock of the whereabouts
of the girls and noticed that one of my Rhode Island Reds was quite
busy behind the wagon wheel that I grow my sweet peas on. She was
digging herself a little hole in the dirt and pulling in dried
vegetation. I went back to chopping kindling. About an hour later I
started to round up the girls to go back inside. I reached in behind
the wagon wheel to coax the Rhodie out and what had she left me...a
beautiful egg still warm!
Have your girls laid eggs in unusual places? Anyone ever watched
their chicken lay an egg? Let us know about it!
