Subject: New to Club Oly Running: monthly biographies. This month:
Tammy Herzog.
Dan Meuse: How was it you got involved in running?
Tammy Herzog: I was getting interested in kickboxing, and the
instructor at that time told us that running would offer us a great
alternative in that it would help with cardio and overall fitness like
nothing else. So I started running on the treadmill. Soon after that,
Jody & Andy Fritz (also Club Oly Running members) got me psyched to do
a race. We signed up for the Friendship Run, and I won my age group!!!
I got a free pair of shoes and some socks, and I was hooked!!!
Dan: What's your favorite race?
Tammy: Sound To Narrows. I love it because it's so challenging with
all the hills, but at 12 kilometres it doesn't leave you completely
drained. Plus, we always have so many of our friends with us. It's a
great event.
Dan: Tell me your goals as an athlete and runner.
Tammy: I just wanna stay fit, and keep running until I'm in the
ground!!!
Dan: You recently qualified for the "Half Fanatics" group. How did you
do it?
Tammy: I did two half-marathons in 7 days. Ocean Shores, and Lake
Chelan half.
Dan: You also recently completed your first marathon at Portland,
2009. What was that experience like?
Tammy: It felt great to finish because I'd trained so hard. It hurt a
lot too, but I persevered, and for that reason I feel really proud.
What really got me was seeing you, Nicky (Upson), Andy (Fritz), and
Mark (Anderson) at the 25th mile with your camera. I know that you
didn't achieve your goal of qualifying for Boston and that you had
cramped badly, and it was surprising to me that you were out there
still, running along with your camera.
Dan: You've got two wonderful daughters, and you live with your mother
as well as Abby, your black lab. With such a "housefull of women", how
do you keep Bill in line?
Tammy: I just communicate with him strongly how I feel!!!
