A call to Mas Locos - transferring to a Facebook group

Hello friends,

The past weeks have been hectic, as everyone knows.

As Maria, Scott and many others were trying to set up a plan for the
future of the Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon, one thing became quite
clear ; CCUM and Mas Loco stuff is all over the internet, some of it
is inaccessible and some of it outdated, some by unknown authors, and
so on.

In an effort to bring everything under a same roof and to make sense
both to Mas Locos and everyone else interested, we want to suggest the
following plan :

We would GRADUALLY :

- Transfer web site contents (such as coppercanyonultra.com,
caballoblanco.com) into various sections of the new caballoblanco.org
web site that was created in the aftermath of Micah's passing.

- Use the CCUM Facebook page for relaying public info about the CCUM.
This item is actually underway and we invite you to join at
http://www.facebook.com/coppercanyonultramarathon

- Transfer e-mail groups and mass communications into a Facebook
group, which allows the posting of many different contents like
images, videos, tagging and collaborations. Even those who are not on
Facebook would receive the contents of the group via e-mail.

As a consequence, this group and others would be closed and we would
concentrate our communications on the Facebook group. Any other source
of information we have control over would be either merged or closed
down, to facilitate communication.

What do you guys think?

Do you feel this is a good way to go about things?

Let's take some days for everyone to read this and reflect on it, then
make a decision.

All suggestions are welcome.

Flint, I'm in.  Hey, just got back from my credit union.  While trying to deposit your check they told me it would be a $40.00 charge to deposit the check.  Well of course I said no thanks.  SO, do you want me to tear up the check or mail it back to you.  You can pay me if and when we cross paths again.

Hey Flint. This is great and thanks for taking the lead.

Do you think we can keep a copy of caballoblanco.com in it's current
state? I understand that things like links to requests for tours,
registration payment, donation links etc, will need to be redirected.
And, of course I agree that much of that content on that site and on
coppercanyonultra.com should get copied to caballoblanco.org. It may
even be such that the site is moved to a different location
(http://caballoblanco.org/original_caballoblanco.com). I just like the
idea of keeping a copy of it available as it is for longevity.

One other concern is group membership. I recall filling out the request
to join the 2010 CCUM. I felt almost as if I was writing an essay proof
of an understanding or a desire to understand the word korima. I know
that Facebook groups are changing somewhat right now, but my impression
is that joining them is rather simple. Payment of an entry fee to the
CCUM seemed to weigh on Micah's decision. Indeed, this is a good
indicator for a person's commitment, but I think there's more to it than
that. We don't have Micah's judgement this time. I guess I'm just
expressing a little caution in regards to management of the group so
that membership doesn't snowball.

I very much agree with you. I'm actually still trying to figure out
how to keep the "essay" thing alive, for the same reasons you
mentioned :)

As for the original sites, I think there's a way to capture them in
PDF format. Maybe we could do this and have them available from the
caballoblanco.org web site?

Awesome Flint. Yeah, I figured you were conscious of this. I just
wanted to be safe and mention it.

I can zip up these websites I believe, so that they may be unpacked
functionally into a subdirectory on caballoblanco.org. I'll take a look
at that in the morning.

Thanks Scott. I'm glad you got the domain renewed. I think that preserving the site and domain name are both important, but don't necessarily have to be the same thing. I'm not sure I'm advocating a redirect, just saying that it's possible...  I'll send you and Flint what I copy down tomorrow.
