Here's another beautiful story of Micah, that absolutely brightened my day with joy. The photos, the man, he never changed.

Sure, I'll send it along. My spouse is going to scan it for me.
Also, I determined that the photo is from 1995. Tonight, as I was still unpacking and putting things away, I ran across an old folder with my old bibs from races I did in the '90s. I happened to find a flyer I brought back from Creel (during that trip) about an upcoming race of the Tarahumara in Nov of 1995. Mystery solved! It was 1995 not 1992. I'll send that too.

Hello Miroslava,
Thank you for sharing your story of Micah True (Caballo Blanco). I would love to see the photo that you took of him many years ago. If you can send me a copy that would be great.
In the meantime I am still working hard on the movie. I don't have an anticipated date of release yet but I'm sure that you will hear about it when it does come out.
Thanks again for your interest and the photo if you are able to scan and send. I appreciate it!
Best,
Sterling

Thank you for bringing Micah True's life and death to our attention. What a loss. I was sad to hear the news but I was also surprised to realize that I had (years ago) met and gone with a run with him in Creel, Chihuahua! I was quite shocked to realize this (and did so as a result of the current issue of Runner's World), because when I met him, he was such a humble person (and I guess to the end he was). In 1992, a friend and I traveled to Creel, I wanted to visit (never had) and he wanted to visit some of his extended family nearby. When we arrived in Creel (by bus), we stayed at the "casa de huespedes" run by a woman who I can't recall (I only recall we had beans with every meal). Anyway, we met him there but at the time he had long (shoulder length) hair. He was very nice at dinner time and somehow, can't recall the details, we ended up running on the same road. At about mile 5 or so, I had to stop to catch my breath, then I recall that he ran
passed me, said he was doing 10 miles, and as he passed, he had this gentle smile and he simply waved. He also later gave me a tip about how to conquer hills, he said simply, "shorten your stride, and use your arms" something that I remembered for years to come. I think he said more but that's all I recall.
I actually read Born to Run last year, my spouse (who is from Chihuahua, Chih.) wanted to read about the Tarahumara Indians, picked up the book. Then, I read it too (since I enjoy the sport, my spouse prefers to cycle). I didn't put the two together (the man I met in 1992) with the man in the book b/c the man in the book was described as a "ghost" of sorts, as a recluse. It was not until I saw the photo in this month's Runner's World that I put two together.
Evidence: A few days, as we were finishing up our move back into our home (we were burglarized and vandalized in Feb. and had home repairs completed last week), I rummaged through my old photos, thinking I had likely thrown out all my pictures from that trip to Creel (I tend to throw away a lot of stuff) and that even if I found them, there's no way I would have one of him. But sure enough, I found a photo of myself, my friend, and of Micah True. He's standing behind us, with a cap, long hair, and wearing running shoes and jeans.
Anyway, if anyone is interested in the photo, I can upload and send along. I happened to have two copies, not sure why. My story is NOT that interesting, I know but I wanted to share.
What I remember was that he was this no-nonsense "white guy," as I called him then, who was out there chilling out, enjoying the natural beauty.
Thank you!
