CQ March 1957 comments: "our SSB Contest seems to have been a huge success.
At exacly 18:00 on Saturday June 12th [1957] every SSB station in the world
started calling DX Contest, or so it seemed." CQ goes on to say that ET3RL
was one of the new stations that appeared in the contest.

The op of ET3RL was Roger Leclaire, VE3CNV, who claims that the first
two-way SSB contact made with Ethiopia was on 1957-01-13, when he worked
VE7EL. The first contact with USA was with W8QNF.

ET3RL became ET3UCA (CQ January 1960), the call of the University College
ARC in Addis Ababa (Summer 1958 RAC).
