My first question is a rather simple one, which I think I know the answer to but wanted to clarify anyway:

-for international versions of these cards (German, Spanish, Korean, Italian etc.) , were they obtained the same way they were in the US and UK, which was to attend a film screening or party at the movie theatre and get given the cards there?

For the German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Korean versions: yes. A.f.a.i.k., those were indeed given at cinemas/theaters of the first Pokmon movie, just like the English ones. The German, French, and Italian promos came sealed like the English ones; and the Spanish promo cards were given raw without plastic seal nor insert. The Korean Mewtwo was also given at cinemas/theaters for the first Pokmon Movie in South Korea.

I had a fascination with these in 2009 and bought hundreds of sealed movie promos back when they were $2 a piece. I painstakingly wiggled cards around every sealed pack looking for an anomaly and never found one. Very sad adventure for me.

I had always assumed they came from the ones with the purple side of the catch mew and no Iron Giant, but then I had bought an inverted promo off of someone from their binder. A few days later they came back and said they decided to open a few promos they had laying around and popped out a Pikachu. I wish I could have snagged it before the seal was broken, but it came from the kind as you mentioned with the two inserts including the Iron Giant coupon.

I just sold and shipped my Electabuzz inverted stamp promo for $1250. Ive had it since the movie. I started the price at $26,000 (just to see if I got any bites) but after a year i put it to $2000. Someone immediately inquired offering $1250 and i said what the heck lets do it. Ima be pissed if i find out later the going price is up to 1 million or something because of it being the rarest card in existence

Definitely made me feel a lot better about my transaction lol ive been trying to reach out to a buddy from high school that i used to trade with. Last year he said he still has his whole binder. He went to see the movie at the same theater i went to when i got my electabuzz, and 8 times out of 10 his is a misprint too. I just dont know if i should tell him outright, or throw him an offer for the binder lol

Mewtwo #3 and Mewtwo #12 both have difficult to discern Japanese releases, but the card is in English and very closely resembles the regular English card. There is also GOTTA Magazine Mew #8, printed on glossy cardstock. These all distinctly carry the Black Star Promo symbol and set number despite being variant re-releases.

The #4 Pikachu is indeed the only one that was released in Dutch. However, there are two versions of it. One from the World Collection set with the gold tail, and one (I believe the movie promo) without the gold tail.

In saying that, not all Pokmon TCG Black Star Promo cards are worthy of this elevated status. Part of the fun of receiving these cards is that special feeling of obtaining a limited edition card that will never be produced again. But due to some disappointing artwork or lackluster abilities, some cards fail to satisfy their recipients.
