Build Your Own Damn Grid!
Don't use jqGrid, FlexiGrid, Kendo Grid,
Dojo Grid, EXT Grid... don't even use the grid that will be demonstrated
in this talk! Build your own damn grid!Because
of the visual relationship to the database, HTML data grids are one of
the most common widgets requested by business. But tabular data isn't
enough, they tend to want a fixed header, sorting, pagination, dynamic
columns, and features, features, features, and more features. Developers
not wanting to "recreate the wheel" naturally reach for an
off-the-shelf solution.The
problem is it turns out Feature A doesn't work with Feature B, and
Feature C is missing in Library A, so you opt for Library C which is
missing Feature A! All you have to do if implement Feature A, right?
WRONG! Build your own damn grid!Mike
Wilcox will show how easy it is to build a grid that you can extend
with your own features, after knowing a few key tricks. He will also
give architecture and code-style tips, and show off the base library
code used for the grid.About the SpeakerMike Wilcox is a front end engineer, UI, UX, design specialist, a senior
software engineer at Tradestation, and a regular speaker on JavaScript
and other web technologies. As co-founder of the JavaScript user group
in Dallas, Club AJAX, Mike has spoken on topics that include "Model View
Madness" and "JavaScript Object Oriented Inheritance".
