Better Than Ever?
That's what it feels like as the calendar of car culture capers seems more crowded than ever.
Lots of people are organizing lots of driving and
showing opportunities, and there are several listed
here for the first time this month.
The car hobby depends on participation.

Do you want the car hobby to thrive?
Then all you have to do is show up,
although it often helps to register in advance.

Lewis & Clark
Classic Rally
July 8-10
Lincoln City, Oregon
(and around western Oregon)
|
|
|
Event fully subscribed. Registration closed.
It's a rally, it's a tour, it's a beach-bonfire party (actually three beach bonfire parties). We'll meet at the Inn at Spanish Head on the Friday evening and go driving Saturday and Sunday with party time in the evenings.
"Great cars, great roads, great people and great fun."
The website tells all:
Stay tuned for information on the
2023 rally in the next REID'S LIST.
|
|
And then there's the companion event to the
Lewis & Clark Classic Rally...
Corps of Discovery Tour
July 29-August 1
Oregon, Washington, Oregon
The website is all-british.org, but the event is for any car, not just British. If you'd like to try an event with little structure, no registration fee, and lots of opportunity to color outside the lines, your wish has been fulfilled.
It's different, just like all of us, and our cars.

The All British Field Meets
Did you know there are four "ABFMs" in the region (the Pacific Northwest)? The first one is already behind us for this year,
but there are still three in the future. To wit:
Vancouver, British Columbia, May 21
"Vancouver All British Field Meet"
"Western Washington All British Field Meet"
REGISTRATION NOW OPEN:
"Portland All British Field Meet"
"Southwest Idaho All British Field Meet"

Northwest Rod & Classic
July 3
Independence, Oregon
Held at Riverview Park in downtown Independence, this show features food, a kid zone with inflatables and a kids' tent and a balloon artist, "Stump the Gear Head," and a magic show (can they make an MG stop leaking?).
Food Bank donations encouraged, and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Jerry Bigler Scholarship Fund.
It doesn't get any more wholesome than this folks!

|
Morris Minors on the Green
July 9
Hammerle Park, West Linn, Oregon
You gotta love an event with a schedule like this:
11 a.m. until we leave.
BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch).
Swap meet.
FREE event.
"We look forward to any and all that can participate, any vehicle or person is welcome, Morris Minor or not. Bring a chair or any other lawn comforts that you feel are appropriate for a park setting. Be sure to put it on your calendar so you don't miss the opportunity of all things British car related."

|
Early Ford V8 Club
2022 Western National Meet
July 11-14
Wenatchee, Washington
The website's got the details, but think of the eye candy - the traditional, Americana brand of eye-candy - at this event!
|
|
La Grande
Classic Car Show
July 15-17
La Grande (saw that coming, didn't you?), Oregon
Presented by the Timber Cruisers Car Club,
more information is available by phone or email
Here's a look at last year's winners, and believe me, there's some wild stuff out there in La Grande!
|
|
Forest Grove Concours
July 17
Forest Grove, Oregon
Venerable. So come out and venerate already.
Full disclosure: I'm a judge, an entrant, and a class sponsor. And if that ain't veneration, I don't know what is.
|
|
Mini Meet West
July 25-29
The Point Casino,
Kingston, Washington
If you're in Mini culture, you probably already know all about this event. If you don't, they are ready to welcome you into the fold. I hear there's a secret handshake (but even members don't know how it goes).
I attended a Mini Meet West a few years ago, but I'm not at liberty to reveal details. That Sheriff had no sense of humor!
Like a wise Mini owner once said,
"There's less here than meets the eye."

15th Old Time
Cruise to Estacada
August 6
Estacada Timber Park
Estacada (duh!), Oregon
This is another one with scads of wholesomeness, and we could all use a little lot more of that these days. It benefits the Estacada Area Food Bank. It's hosted by the Route 26 Cruisers. Music by RJ the DJ. 50/50 drawing. Silent auction. Vendors. Kool kars.
Remember, it's hip to be square.
|
|
Shelby Club Track Day
August 11
Portland International Raceway
If you've never been to a "track day," it makes a good excuse to visit the track and experience the sights and sounds of a race without an admission fee for visitors. You'll see a wide variety of cars and an even wider variety of skill levels.
Of course, the main point if the event is to drive your car on the track, at speed, and there are run groups for Novice, "Vintage Exhibition Group," Intermediate and Advanced.
You get five 20-minute sessions, and instructors will be available.
Details and sign-up at:

Cruise the Gorge
August 12-14
The Dalles, Oregon
This one's got it all. It kicks off Friday evening with the "Neon Cruise" in downtown The Dalles. On Saturday there's a car show followed by the "Parade of Champions." That evening there's another car show and dinner-dance at the Eagles Lodge. And on Sunday there is the Dufur Days Car Show in nearby Dufur, Oregon.
And by the way, Dufur has got it goin' on.

50th Annual
All Ford Picnic & Car Show
August 14
Champoeg State Park
The car culture takes many forms, but there are more similarities than differences. Why not venture out of your comfort zone and take in some good ol' Fords and their enthusiastic owners?
This event is hosted by the Mid-Willamette Early Ford V8 Club at beautiful Champoeg State Park (8239 Champoeg Road NE, St. Paul, Oregon).
There's a park entry fee of $5, and a show entry fee of $10Â that includes dash plaque, coffee and donuts (sounds like it's worth it just for the coffee and donuts!).
It's for all Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars and trucks that are new, used, stock or hotrod. There is no show fee for visitors, although presumably you still pay for park entry.
Bring your own picnic.
Last year's show drew over 200 vehicles, and with this being the 50th, it's likely to be bigger yet.

|
Oswego Heritage Council
21st Annual
Collector Car &
Classic Boat Show
August 28
Lake Oswego, Oregon
This is the one where you enter the show field and park in the next available spot. Your car could end up parked between a Topolino and a Bentley, a McLaren and an X1/9, a Jailbreak Edition Charger and a Super Beetle.
Madcap hijinks are sure to ensue.
And there are boats, in the water yet - what a concept!
I think the event benefits something. I'll probably be there myself if my parole officer doesn't have other plans for me that day. He's not a car guy.

|
Fifth Annual Fort Kennedy
Cruise-In & Motorcycle Ride
August 28
Sideline Sports Bar, Portland
This event supports Fort Kennedy, a transitional housing project for homeless veterans. Even if you can't make it to the event, speaking as a veteran I encourage you to learn about Fort Kennedy and consider supporting their work.

Your alliteration fix of the day...
Wheelin' Walla Walla
September 9-10
Walla Walla, Washington Washington
OK, to be true alliteration it would have to be
Wheelin' Whalla Whalla, but let's not get technical.
Walla Walla makes a nice drive from most points in the Pacific Northwest, and let's face it, it's just fun to say.
We'll let the website speak for itself, but did you know that actor Adam West, best known as TV's Batman, was from Walla Walla?
|
|
Oregon Festival of Cars
September 16-18
Bend, Oregon
Billing itself as "The Northwest's premier car enthusiast weekend" and open to all sports and enthusiast cars of any vintage, the OFC has carved out its own niche on the car culture calendar.
They have a good website that we'll let speak for itself, but we do want to mention the "Sunday Dash" that concludes the event is a must-do. Radar detectors highly recommended.

WAAAM West
Cars by Ron Wade
Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays
Vancouver, Washington
So what's "WAAAM"? That's Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum. It's in Hood River, Oregon, and it's a spectacular collection of old airplanes and increasingly also of old cars.
So WAAAM West is west of the Hood River WAAAM in Vancouver, Washington, and it's a spectacular collection of cars that includes some very distinguished cars, such as four that won the 24-Hours of Le Mans.
They're open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Fridays, and they open an hour earlier at 9 a.m. on Saturdays so you can make it a weekly Cars & Coffee event.
It's a gem of a museum right here in the Portland/Vancouver area, and it might just make a great destination for club tours or just anytime you are in the mood for cars with your coffee on Saturdays.
It's located at 1015 NE 78th Street in Vancouver, and that's just 1 1/2 blocks east of I-5 at the 78th Street exit.

Weekly event ...
Friday Night Cruise In
Alderbrook Park
Brush Prairie, Washington
Every Friday through September 16, beginning at 4 p.m., there's a massive car show in a forest setting. You park on the lawn, but you're surrounded by forest making it seem like some kind of secret rendezvous.
And like all good secret rendezvouses it has a cafe, a beer garden, a snack shack, music and vendors.
They say it's for "all special interest cars, trucks and bikes," but they also welcome spectators. A car load of participants pays $10, and motorcycles and spectators pay $5.
This address will get you where you want to be:
24414 NE Westerholm Road, Brush Prairie WA.

Weekly event ...
Portland Cars & Coffee
Every Saturday, Year 'Round
Rain or Shine
Sherwood, Oregon
So if you're free 8-11 a.m. on a Saturday and hankering to drive and show your car and look at other cars, here's your solution. It's every Saturday (with the sole exception of July 16 due to the Sherwood Parade).

Scroll down for the banner ads of the Lewis & Clark Classic Rally sponsors. We love them very much and we hope you will too. Or at least buy something from them.
Click on their banners to be taken to their websites, and in one case where there is no related website, the link goes to a music video I like.

INTERESTING FACTOIDS
ABOUT REID'S LIST
I am Reid. This is my list.
REID'S LIST is not an attempt to list all possible automotive-related events.
Most of the events are those that I believe could benefit from additional publicity, such as by appearing in REID'S LIST, or they're events that I just like.
The events in REID'S LIST almost all occur in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Idaho. Exceptions are possible.
I encourage you to forward these emails to friends, acquaintances, whole clubs and anyone or anything else that you think might be interested. Events such as these thrive on participation, helping to make sure that they continue. Did someone say, "participation equals perpetuation"?
I make no money doing this, and while I can't be bought, I can be rented. I'm not opposed to accepting ostentatious gratuities, special privileges, complimentary tickets, adult refreshments, prime seating, VIP parking, and/or other substantial compensation or consideration. And if any of that ever happens, I'll be sure to let the IRS know.
In the meantime I continue to honor my vow of poverty, and owning old British cars makes that easy.
