Dave,

Just curious if the ABFM committee has been in touch about the display this year featuring “the cars of Lotus”?

Jerry,

No - nothing other than the generic flyer they send everyone which I have yet looked through.

I am currently sitting on three (ish)  - M100 Elan, Elise and a Westfield 7.

Are they planning something interesting this year?

Dave

Dave,

I was curious after looking at this years flyer and their website……not a word here about it….just wondering what they have planned….seems like someone in the club would be in the know.

I was excited to see this – I hope it’s well communicated and planned so we can get a good showing of cars.

As to all enquiring, John Abbott says he will contact ABFM about our involvement.

Hello Dave:

The Western Washington All British Field Meet (WW ABFM) car show, which is scheduled for Saturday, July 11th won't be "featuring" Lotus cars, but it will have a unique display of "James Bond's Cars", that will feature British vehicles driven by the "James Bond" character (as well as one driven by one of "his" villains, in "his" movies) on the Show Field.

The Lotus car in the display will be a dark red Lotus Esprit Turbo, similar to the one driven by Roger Moore in the movie "For Your Eyes Only", when he went up the mountain, to go skiing.

We didn't get a white 1970s Lotus that temporarily turned into a submarine, until it was driven up out of the ocean and onto a beach in the "The Spy Who Loved Me". BTW, that was the Lotus that got the nickname of "Wet Nellie", for obvious reasons.

Just for your and the other CLNW members information.

Doug Jackson, Acting Chairman of the ELCC

Dave (and club members),

As noted in the thread below (and as some of you have seen in materials/e-mails from the Portland ABFM), this year's ABFM will feature Lotus as a “Guest Featured Marque”.  MG will be the Main Featured Marque since that role is always filled by one of the ABFM Organization’s members (Triumph, MG, Jaguar and a couple of others).  As a featured partner marque, Lotus will enjoy:

  • Prime display area alongside MG
  • Special recognition in event marketing and promotional materials
  • Opportunity to host specific activities or talks (don’t know what this entails)

I can bring a canopy to set up but no table or chairs (only so much fits in the Elise).  If there is a club or other Lotus banner someone has, we could put that up.

A few things we should be able to do:

  • Contact other clubs in the PNW and see if any of them would be interested in attending.  Doug Jackson at ELCC for example. Doers anyone have contacts at the Vancouver BC club?  Are there other clubs perhaps in western WA?
  • If anyone has a contact at Lotus Corporation (LotusUSA or even in the UK) might they be willing to sponsor part of the event?

Considering how small the CLNW budget is, I don’t think we can do too much more than show up and encourage other Lotus owners to attend.

If anyone has ideas or resources (contacts etc) that would be useful, let me know and I will pass the information on to the Portland ABFM.

Sincerely

John Abbott
