Club Cochise Members past and present,
It is with a heavy heart that I write today asking all of us to
recognize the great need of the community to pull together and support
those who have been affected by the Monument Fire. It is rare that our
area must endure such events taking place right in our back yard, and
when they do we need to do our part to help our neighbors in need.
Families are being evacuated from their homes, to what they may not
ever be able to return to. I am filled with pride to see so many local
businesses stepping up and supporting the community in this time of
need.
City of SV has opened Apache Middle School for evacuees.
Palominas School has also been opened by the Red Cross.
Several of the local hotels/motels will accept small pets, that
usually don't but will as an emergency. For example, Windemere,
Holiday Inn Express, Candlewood.
SV Lions Swap Meet is open for RV dry camping. They do not have hook
ups of water, electric or a dump.
American Mini Storage on Highway 92 will donate storage space for
evacuees as well as RV storage.
For Animals:
SV Animal Hospital has several spaces and an ambulance on call 24/7 in
the event of an animal emergency 458-8656
New Frontier Animal Hospital:
520-234-5145
Goin to Gramma's

pick up animals. Call

Donations are being accepted for Fire Fighters and Evacuees in
different locations:
Donations for fire fighters will be accepted at the Fry Fire Dept #2
on Yaqui. They need water, energy bars, baby wipes, chap stick, eye
drops, chewing gum.
Red Cross at Apache School will need personal hygiene items like tooth
brushes, toiletries, soaps,etc for evacuees.
Friday Discount Tire 9am-3pm will accept donations for evacuees-also
need personal hygiene items.
I am sure other collection points will also come up as well.
Fire information and updates will be broadcast by Sheriffs office via
Cherry Creek Radio 1420 KTAN-AM , or 93.2 KWCD-FM Cherry Creek Radio.

All past or present Club Cochise members who need any assistance are
encouraged to contact me or other board members and we will pull
together any needed resources to support you as best as we can.
Lastly I encourage everyone to take note of the extremely high fire
conditions. The humidity levels of the dry plants is less than 2%
which means just the slightest spark or ember could ignite a flame.
Embers drifting along the winds can start fires hundreds of feet away.
Heated winds from the fire blowing over dry grass is enough to cause
combustion. Whether you live near the fire area, or in the rural areas
on acreage, you are sitting on a match stick if you have not cleared
off the dead, dying or blowing weeds, grasses, dead trees and brush.
Actually the same is true if you are in the city and have a yard full
of dry weeds.
In order to protect your property you have to take immediate measures
to mitigate any chances of becoming a victim of this, or any other
fire. Clear all vegetation at least 40' to 50' away from your house on
all sides.. If you are on a slope you need to increase that to 60' on
the uphill side. If your neighbor's property is inside your 50' radius
you need to partner with them and get rid of all combustible materials
TODAY!
I wish everyone the best in this difficult time and thanks to everyone
who has or is oging to lend a helping hand.
