We have kept quiet through the last 112 emails that have bombarded my in box for the last 2 days!

First of all, I want to know why all of you Pro wifi advocates purchased your units at Cascadas? Or did you inherit them, therefore why you have NO appreciation for what Cascadas stands for.

Its fairly obvious that Cascadas isn't like your typical hotel resort with elevators, tvs, wifi etc. ( incase you were too busy conducting business to notice)Thats why it intrigued us to buy there.. I need wifi everyday to conduct business as most of you. But when I come to Cascadas, I make it a point to leave that part of my business up in the coffee shop and spend my time with my family!

I would like to know, how many of you Pro Wifiers have read Edward Paul Giddings book and have some perspective about why he and Patrica built this resort. Let the Giddings family and there competent staff make these decisions.

Have respect for other views, if I want to sit under a palapa and read a book on my ipad or surf the net through wifi, it has no impact on anyone else!  And if you want to be short sited, don't put in wifi, as the younger generation grows they will demand wifi and Cascadas will disappear as a desired destination, values will drop, vacancies will increase.

Here is a tip for all you wifi users.  Go to Tel Cel on the main road in town and buy yourself a modem.  It works great. Bring it baack next year and re-activate it!

Below Mr. Tom Granger has a short and sweet suggestion/recommendation to serve the needs of those that want it.  In a brieft statement he's suggested a solution to those that feel they have a problem.  This falls within the realm of why Mr. Carter, et el went to the efforts to design/create Cabo Friends.

Thank you Tom.

I too have kept quiet through all this discussion, choosing to be patient, reading everyone's thoughts/opinions. Here are my reflections on this:

(1) To those who believe Cascadas may lose it's value and desire without wifi, I would suggest that there is the same potential for just the opposite. Without wifi throughout the resort, Cascadas maintains the ambiance that keeps it the special place it was designed to be by it's creators, the Giddings. Without wifi it offers something that most other resorts do not - peace and quiet throughout the resort while still offering a place to go where business can be conducted. In fact, the value and desirability of Club Cascadas will be enhanced by it's reputation for peace and quiet. A refuge for the many who wish to get away from all the hub-bub of the "rat race" we live at home. There are certainly plenty of folks who put a premium on such a unique resort!  There are already many owner's in this resort who favor such a place. People will flock to a place where they know they will enjoy such quiet and relaxation, And those who need wifi access 24/7 can buy into any number of other places that offer it....The sad and sorry truth about people is that there are too many who are self centered, not caring about what effect their behavior has on the lives of others. I don't want to hear people walking or lounging around talking on their phones! Let them take it to the office area. Sorry, but IMO, suggesting that not having Wifi will devalue Cascadas is a just an opinion, one to consider, however, I believe that argument holds no water. There are a multitude of resort choices in Cabo, and Club Cascadas does not need to become just another run of the mill resort like the others!

(2)  The vote is skewed! I did not know about the vote until today. And when I went to the site to vote, voting was closed. What was the rush to close the vote? A small percentage had a chance to vote. A much longer period of open discussion about this topic should have been allowed before a vote. One member suggests that the vote was open to fraud by allowing any member to vote more than once. If that is so, the vote is invalid! And is 686 the total number of owners at Cascadas? How is it that this forum has the power to make such decisions anyway? I thought the process for such decisions lied with the Board of Director after open discussions with the members

(3) LAN lines to the villas is a reasonable idea to explore. This alternative allows the use of computers in the villas, including WebCam and phone conversation. The cost to install WiFi vs LAN, I do not know. But either one involves a cost. And this cost needs to also be investigated and shared with the members, allowing them full disclosure and understanding of what impact that will have on their wallets.

That's my 2 cents at this time. I hope I have not offended anyone (not my intention - just voicing my opinion)

I think that Corey is absolutely right. Just pull the plug on the tainted vote, shut down the regime and let the board of directors make the decision.

I too have tried to ignore this string but can no longer.  My goodness folks - there's nothing whatsoever intrusive about WiFi.  99% of the world has no idea how to use it to make a call and having just been there in November the only disturbance I had other than not being able to sleep as we ended up in a unit facing the hotel hotel next door, was cell phones, and that was VERY minimal.  Flipping your phone to international coverage for a week is cheap.  Phones are here to stay regardless of the carrier technology.   Its all about common courtesy.  If one wants to surf the web on their iPad to check the news or sports scores, or download a book, who cares??  That doesn't affect me one iota.  Candidly anyone who suggests WiFi is a disturbance to others I'm not sure understands the technology - it will likely never be strong enough to stream movies and anyone doing that with an iPad has headphones on from what I've seen.  What are we so afraid of?   And to hardwire cascadas would cost a fortune by the way.  Those building are all concrete.

And you know what, far and away the biggest thing that bothers me is cigarette smoke on the beach that me and my kids have to breathe.  Unrelated I know, but WiFi is not a threat to an enjoyable vacation - in fact for many it adds to it.

Rant over.  Beat Navy.  Out.

Wifi is already at the resort....in some areas you can use your laptop to cruise the web and last time I checked....I can call from anywhere in the resort or on the beach with my cell phone.  So introducing wifi thru-out the resort would not "create" a less peaceful environment.  I believe it would only add to my vacationing experience.  I don't read books or magazines.  I love my laptop, ipad, kindle...whatever it may be....and I would love to be able to email home to my family to communicate my whereabouts and safety w/o having to buy a mexican cell phone plan or use my personal cell phone.

I would love to sit on my patio for coffee in the mornings or watch a movie before bed at night to calm me into my sweet dreams and currently I can not w/o the connection.  So as it stands.....disruptive cell phone use by those that want to chat away and annoy others is already here.  They don't need WiFi to be annoying and introducing wifi to the resort in more locations has nothing to do with those that don't have the common courtesy to refrain from cell phone use in public areas.

Sincerely, "Hope to someday be able to afford to own at cascadas" :)
A.D.

Why I choose Club Cascadas over ALL other resorts:

  1. 25 years of lovely times, memories, and the connections I've made over that time.
  2. The INTIMATE, human-scale buildings and grounds: small units, lots of sun streaming in, meandering, gloriously landscaped passageways that filter Members around and when you're on your patio say hello; personal hammocks and the birds that sing in the morning!
  3. Daily maid service: I can cook in my villa and not wash a dish, or make a bed - THAT"S VACATION!!!
  4. No TV in the rooms: Love it when Members gather in the Clubhouse to watch movies or sports games, or in Clubhouse, Too for Karaoke, Bingo, or Tequils tasting - it's like adult summer camp!
  5. Owned by members, and we have this forum.
  6. Same Staff for years who remember me!
  7. Wifi is not part of my list; it just facilitates convenience for when we HAVE to check in.
Gracias y Buenas Noches,

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Please note the hypocrisy of Ron Carter, he has been a member of Club Cascadas De Baja Google Groups since Aug 25 2010 until today
but now he wants to disavow any involvement in the discussion about WiFi. What was wrong with our discussion? I thought it was great. Thats what it's all about, communicating with other members and not just, do you want to rent my unit? Thats the problem with Cabo Friends, this debate could never happen without half of you getting banned.  I suppose thats why he has 360 members and we have 687.
Keep participating! you won't get banned.

Thank You
