Dear CLTA-VA members and friends,
Please see the May news letter for your interests -
I. CLTA-VA Chinese pedagogy workshop on Saturday, April 19th in George Mason University Completed Successfully.
The Chinese Language Teachers Association of Virginia, The Chinese Language Teachers Association of National Capital Region and The Confucius Institute at George Mason University jointly had their 2014 Chinese Pedagogy Workshop on April 19 in George Mason University. Professor Hong Gang Jin of Hamilton College gave a keynote lecture under the title “The Role of Pushed Output in CFL Language Development” and Ms. Leslie Grahn of Howarad County Public Schools gave a presentation on using foldables in classrooms. In the afternoon several other speakers gave presentations including Professor Fangyuan Yuan of U.S. Naval
Academy on designing innovative classroom activities in L2 Chinese and Ms. Lili Ren of Confucius Institute at George Mason University on the topic of teaching vocabulary in TCSL-lexical approaches as example. The workshop was very well attended. In fact it was a huge success with over 120 participants packing the entire auditorium and we even had to turn away some eager attendees simply because of the room capacity. Many of the participants said that they learned a great deal from all the speakers and were looking forward to our future workshops. (Fu, HongChu, President of CLTA-VA)
