Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school located in the Tenleytown neighborhood of N.W. Washington, DC seeks a part-time Chinese language teacher for its Middle School division to teach 5th and 6th grade Chinese, with a possibility of teaching at least one section in the Upper School. Applicants must have a native or near-native proficiency in that language.

Significant classroom experience as a Chinese teacher, an ability to motivate and support students, and a willingness to work collaboratively with others are required. The successful candidate will also have an educational background in Chinese language pedagogy (or a related discipline) and experience in the use of technology for the language classroom. Experience with TPRS methodology is preferred.

The successful applicant must have a clear understanding of the needs of middle school students, be able to work cooperatively with a group of adults in a team setting, be comfortable in and excited about working with children from diverse backgrounds, and actively support the Quaker philosophy that underlies the school. This position begins August 2014.
