The "gary" account on webfaction is gone.  We had a nice fifteen year ride.

But we are in a better place now thanks to all of Jon's work.  We have a fully functional and modern site with our old material preserved.

Thanks, Jon, for saving the Cloudy project!

You're most welcome.  It's always rewarding to be able to help researchers continue and improve their work with our tech resources.  Please let me know if my colleagues or I can be of further assistance.
Best,
Jon

Hi Jon,
Something changed in the file permissions in the last few days.  I don't understand this since the last root login was Dec 9.

-------------
For instance, we were able to browse the data area before the weekend.  A typical path might be

it was browsable over the weekend and now returns
This site can’t be reached

Check if there is a typo in data.nublado.org.

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN
------------

A bigger question is how to report such problems going forward.  You probably don't want to monitor this forum since most traffic will be cloudy-related

thanks,,
GAry

Hi Gary,
The error you posted is a DNS lookup failure (as if the DNS record for data.nublado.org didn't exist).  I'm not able to reproduce the error from on or off-campus locations - the URL loads as expected for me.  Do the other sites (GitLab, Trac) load properly?  Can you try from a second device?

As far as reporting issues going forward, I'd suggest using our web form (https://www.as.uky.edu/help-desk-form).  That ensures that the issue can be seen and addressed by staff as quickly as possible.  If it's an urgent issue or you haven't received a response, you can email Brian Doyle and me to make sure it didn't get overlooked.

Best,
Jon

thanks - it had been dead for about half an hour but works now.

I use google DNS - they are normally pretty good.  I verified that nublado is not in /etc/hosts (although it was a few weeks ago)

the only other strangeness is that I had been on the UK VPN over the weekend to get to cloud9 and only hung up an hour ago.  the problem was after disconnecting from the VPN.

it works now - sorry for the false alarm.

There was quite a wide-scale problem with Google infrastructure ~ 7am ET today, I guess this might have been a hangover from that.

Thanks, Robin - that was almost certainly it.  It even made the news here.
