Hi Jon,

A question about the wiki for the GitLab setup: I noticed that the GitLab project references two versions of markdown in their documentation.  There is an internal Markdown rendering system.  Curiously, they do not eat their own dogfood - they say they use  Kramdown as their Markdown engine for their internal documentation.

How is our site setup?  Is Kramdown an option?  It is not reassuring that they did not choose to use their own default tools for their documentation.  What do you recommend?

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary,

Though wiki pages can be created in several formats, there is no supported option to change the markdown version used.  It looks like GitLab may have chosen the markdown versions for their site/documentation and GitLab itself for differing sets of features that they felt suited each use case.  If you’re interested, here is their discussion on an issue requesting that GitLab switch to kramdown inside the product.

That said, if the group finds the markdown engine to be inadequate, GitLab has integrations available that allow you to use other wiki products (or to just change the project’s wiki link to an external URL).

Best,

Jon
