HOW TO CREATE STRONG PASSWORDS
(AND REMEMBER THEM!) |
Passwords protect every part of your online life, from email and banking to shopping, streaming, and work accounts. With today’s tools like password managers, creating and using strong passwords is easier than ever. Check out our 2026 guide to create, using, and remembering strong passwords!
Three rules of strong passwords:
-
Long passwords are the most secure
Short passwords (under 16 characters) can be cracked quickly and easily. Passwords over 16 characters can slow hackers down to the point that they give up and move on (and a password manager can help you remember these!).
-
Every account needs a unique password
Reusing passwords is incredibly common, but puts your accounts at risk. If one account is breached, hackers can now use that login info to access all of your other accounts, and AI is only making this easier for them!
- Make each password random and unrecognizable
Using random strings of letters, numbers, and symbols makes your long password even stronger. Complexity (something like P@ssw0rd!) matters less than length and randomness. And a password manager can help you create these!
