REBOOT YOUR ROUTER TODAY

That Wi-Fi router quietly blinking in the corner of your home might be more vulnerable than you think, and now the National Security Agency (NSA) is sounding the alarm. In a recent advisory, the agency recommends a simple but often overlooked step: reboot your router. U.S. cybersecurity agencies recently disrupted a network of compromised home and small-office routers used by a Russian military intelligence unit. Rebooting your router can disrupt certain types of malware and clear temporary connections that attackers exploit.

What to know:

  • A reboot can disrupt attacks.
Restarting your router can break malicious connections and temporarily remove some malware.
  • It’s a quick fix, not a full solution.
You still need to update firmware, change passwords, and secure settings for long-term protection.
  • Routine maintenance matters.
Regularly rebooting and checking your router helps keep your home network safer over time.
