Hi team!

I mentioned it parenthetically here a few weeks ago, but it may have been overlooked: VMs are broken at APT.

Steps to reproduce: Use the small-lan profile with default parameter values, but check the "Use Xen VM" box. Try to instantiate at APT. Experiment fails. For a one-VM experiment, there is no error information given. For an experiment with multiple VMs and a network, it says:
Nodes: vm0 apt083 vm1 apt083 End Nodes Edges: linksimple/link-1/vm0:0,vm1:0 trivial apt083:loopback (apt083/null,(null)) apt083:loopback (apt083/null,(null)) End Edges
Also see previous discussion here, and here. (This seems to be a recurring issue, not sure if a long-term fix is possible...)

Thanks!

Hi. I just did this, and it worked okay, Next time this happens,
please send a link to the failed experiment status page. Or
click on the Request Help button.

Thanks

Hi, here is an example of a current failed VM experiment at APT:

Here is another example using the small-lan profile at APT:

Ah, fixed this bug yesterday for another user. I installed
the fix at the APT cluster, give it another try please.

Thanks

Hi. OK, now the fix really is installed. :-)

Yes, it works now, thanks!

Do you know why this keeps recurring at APT? Looking back at experiment history in my projects, it seems like it happens often. (My teaching project only uses VMs.. in the spring 2025 semester, I see a 100% failure rate for experiments on APT.)  (My students don't report it, they don't realize that this is a bug and not a limited resource issue)

Yes, it was a bug that if not reported, is not likely to be
fixed. :-) Thanks for letting us know!
