Greetings,I am part of a team at a seminary that is giving serious
consideration to using Google Apps and Sites as our LMS. Does anyone
know of other Higher Education institutions using Google resources to
construct an LMS?
If so, who are they?

Thanks, dg

I think the challenges are:

> Grading Participation
> Organizing a class into a "Learning Path" with various applications linked together - finish a blog posting then go to a wiki, etc.
> Setting up a unified space for the class, with few distractions.

Thoughts?

The use of Forms, spreadsheets & scripting within the spreadsheet,
coupled wth Groups, Calendar, and Docs can be leveraged to create most
important services of an LMS. Having the resources in house to put it
all together is the biggest challenge.

Yes John Google online resources are just means to be leveraged in building LM
" Having the resources in house"  lends it self into two broad categorie of resources (1 having sufficeint IT infrastructure and broadband connectivity, this is anyway is available in increasing number of institutions, (2) faculty interested in and trained in using these resources ( Google form), well for this there are two ways - become a lead leaner and inspire them and secondly make it an integral part of learning
For instance following my extensive of web resources for teaching ( http://wtlt.blogspot.com) many of my colleagues showing interest and making small beginnings.
By making integral part of learning process, you may initiate faculty into this process. For instance, I am a faculty  incharge for a seminar in a course and I have made using an assorted set of google resources  it an integral part of preparing and delivering seminar. You may see here  http://mtechseminar2010.blogspot.com  ( each student is asked to set up a blog and post all seminar related progress there

Hello we have created an LMS in Google Apps called 'CourseDirector' and have taken on board a lot of the comments above. It tightly integrates with Apps, creating courses using 'sites', class discussions using 'groups' and also leverages 'docs' heavily. I'd be very keen to get your feedback and the Apps marketplace listing is below:
