Data privacy and legislation?

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find details about data privacy and
legislative considerations that need to be taken into account when
developing a 'cloud' based solution? I'm interested particularly in
the telecoms space (phone call records) but also want to understand
other industry sectors particularly in the area of customer
information etc.

Any guidance appreciated!

Dear Teg,

I think you have answered the real question! The issue here is that in most locations (even within say the EU) there are differing standards. Data protection issues affect different cloud layers in different ways. For IaaS the impact is more limited as generally the customer can control exposure to various jurisdictions with relative ease.  When you move into PaaS and SaaS this becomes a lot more difficult, particularly for smaller customers which have less clout with the vendor.
