Evening all,

Thanks JP for kicking this group off with some real work. There's a sufficiently small number of group founders here at this point that we can probably kick off with some quick intros.

So I'm Sam Johnston, just another Aussie in Europe telling $bigco's what cloud computing's all about. In my spare time I like to work on "putting the lines on the road" for cloud computing and getting the community into shape. Very keen to start kicking some goals now that we've been held up for so long and there's finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

Greetings,

I'm Jeremy Day.  I'm just a developer (C++, Java, PHP, Ruby, C#, etc.) interested in cloud computing.  I don't have any agenda other than learning my way around the cloud computing space as best I can, and I figure the best way to do that is to hang out with people who actually know what the heck is going on.  So here I am.  I participate a bit over at the Cloud Computing Interoperability (but not Interop(tm)) Forum, but I expect I'll be more active here, since things are actually getting done here.  That's right, the pages that JP put up earlier constitute more action than I've seen out of CCIF in weeks.  Excellent work!

+1

As I'm yet to see Google Groups used successfully for collaborative content development I've taken the liberty of moving them to the wiki (which I am in the process of migrating to Mosso, who have kindly volunteered free cloud hosting):

http://wiki.cloudcommunity.org/

Another related document worth looking at is just getting started talking about what we want from Interoperability. The George Reese article linked at the bottom should probably incorporated:

http://wiki.cloudcommunity.org/wiki/Interoperability

Anyway, back to the role call - don't want to hijack the thread.

Hi,

I'm Fred Zappert. I have had an interest and early pursuit of
virtualization, distributed databases, and distributed computing going
back to 1979.

More recently, I've been involved in porting internal applications at
Google towards their cloud, adding data warehouse capabilities to
SalesForce at Cloud9 Analyltics, and working on adding some cloud
features to the Resin J2EE application server.

I am truly hopeful that this group will lead to productive discussion
and joint endeavors that could take advantage of the opportunities
that are facilitated by cloud computing.

Regards,
Fred

Brian Gupta here. AWS user. I run a system administration consulting
group (http://www.brandorr.com). Since I have been using cloud based
services for over a year, I feel I can represent the user point of
view. (mostly for infrastructure as a service).

Howdy,

I am Allen Falcon, CEO of Horizon Info Services. We are an aggregator
and VAR for cloud computing solutions direct to end users. We mostly
sell to SMBs.

We've offered Postini/Google Security and Compliance solutions since
2006. In September 2008 we became a Google Enterprise Partner and an
Authrozed Google Apps reseller as part of Google's pilot channel. We
also offer a range of online backup solutions are currently selecting
or preparing to launch cloud-based VoIP PBX services and virtual/cloud
environments to replace SMB Infrastructure.

Our focus is the end user. While histrorically SMBs are more apt to
proceed with SaaS solutions, we are seeing demand and opportunities
for IaaS and PaaS solutions as well.

Morning all.  I'm Jason Reed, Enterprise Architect for a biologics company in greater DC with 10+ previous years of technology consulting in my past.  Spent the last few months prototyping on the major providers (AWS, Mosso, SFDC, Go Grid, App Engine etc.) in an effort to determine the best path forward for our massive data stroage and processing needs.

Very excited to get past the drama associated with the CCIF soap opera.

Hi All,

I'm JP Morgenthal. I'm currently doing strategy consulting on SOA and
the Cloud in the DC area, and I'm also seeking an opportunity to break
into Government contracting. I spent from 2004-2008 developing a SaaS-
based supply-chain management solution and sold the technology in
2008. I'm still hosting a gift card and loyalty SaaS solution. These
solutions leveraged SOA-based principles heavily. I also have deep
experience in developing highly-scalable applications and optimizing
data centers, which are all critical experiences for Cloud. For me
the biggest issues for the Cloud are financial and business, not
technical, which is why I focused on three critical business problems
to start with in this forum. These are the key issues I saw SOA
struggle with in the beginning (not interoperability), but the why and
the agreement on terminology caused a lot of initial FUD.

Hello everyone,

I'm Mike DiPetrillo. I'm the global cloud architect for VMware. I help
enterprises and service providers build both internal and external
clouds. As the title says I cover the globe and work with the top 20 -
30 accounts in both sectors on a normal basis although I also speak to
everyone else since there's few cloud architects in the company at
this point in time. I come from a networking, telco, and programming
background and have been here at VMware for over 7 years. I run a
personal blog at http://www.mikedipetrillo.com.

I'm interested to see what this group does. I'll provide feedback from
what I see actual customers doing with cloud and provide color
commentary around how that might impact the work being done here. I'm
on the road pretty much all the time so participation here will be
sporadic until the airlines figure out how to offer *real* WIFI on the
flights.

Hi,

I am Alexis Richardson. I am a founder of CohesiveFT and RabbitMQ,
the open source messaging broker. My day to day focus is running the
RabbitMQ company and team.

I was involved in the creation of CloudCamp and have been putting on
the London CloudCamps as MC and curator. I missed the last one for
last minute personal reasons but we had 600-800 people attending. I
also work on open standards, for example AMQP as a key contributor and
OCCI as co-chair. I am a mod on the CCIF list and am active in open
source communities for messaging.

Previously I was CEO of MetaLogic, a Java app server for caching and
data distribution, and before that I was a prop trader at Goldman
Sachs.

Hello, everone.

I'm Thomas Lukasik, a/k/a "Sparky", and I make a living as a software
architect and consultant.

I'd like to see this group function as a "interdiciplinary think
tank", taking maximum advantage of the gamut of individual skillsets
and experiences of all members.

My personal plan for contributing is to stimulate our collective
thinking by:

[1] writing articles and opinion pieces offering empirical and
hopefully provocative views of Clound computing's challenges and
issues
[2] presenting models, architectures and similar high-level approaches
to reducing, minimizing or overcoming those challenges and issues
[3] developing proof-of-concept level implementations to illustrate
the models, architectures and solutions that I'm writing about.

Oh, and I also expect to make friends, find adventure and have fun.

Hello everyone. I'm Chuck Wegrzyn. I've been working on a cloud
storage management platform for the last 5 years (yes, I made the
rounds of the VC community in Boston and was told by everyone I was
too early or there was no market and I didn't know what I was talking
about! lol).

I'm hoping this group is more focused then CCIF was with less noise
and more forward thinking and doing.

I'm willing to help out in whatever way seems appropriate and useful.

Peace,

Hey everyone,
I am Daniel Osilama Omoh. I am basically a jack of all trades in the
IT industry. I launched Lama Solutions Management not too long ago and
we design database web applications. My specialties include ASP.NET
Development with both Vb and C# , Database design and management in
Oracle, MS SQL server, Designing Networks that in cooperate various
technologies. Yep I am a Microsoft person. My main obstacle is to
figure out what is the basic difference of SOA and cloud computing. I
am really hyped up to see what this group can put together.

Gary Berger, I work as a consulting architect at Cisco Systems.

I have been doing infrastructure design since the 80286 processor, (no
pain greater then generating a kernel with 30 5.25 disks). I am also a
utility designer interested in DSL (Domain Specific Languages) and
try to specialize on data center futures... The world is at an
inflection point, the technology direction determined today will play
a major role in our recovery and ability to change things for the
better..

Howdy,

My name is Matthew Zito, and I'm the Chief Scientist and one of the
founders of GridApp Systems - we're a database automation software
company based in NYC. We primarily sell to large and mid-size companies
that are looking at ways of driving consistency in their database
environment in terms of patching, provisioning, standards compliance,
etc. For those who are familiar, the easiest way to think about what we
do is "Opsware/Bladelogic for databases"

My background generally, however is in large-scale infrastructure -
ex-EMC, ex-ecommerce and ISP backgroup. I joined this group because
we've got a minor cloud initiative internally @ GridApp that I'm
spearheading, and I'm personally interested in seeing how people are
using cloud computing (primarily IaaS), and where it's going.

Thanks,
Matt
