I'm wondering why i get sent push notifications containing history ids that when i use the history api return results with empty history listings. When i parse through the message list of history objects is empty for these historyids. It's a waste of logging and computing time.

can you provide more details regarding your use case?

I have push notifications set up, and am trying to retrieve only new messages from the inbox. I'm using c#

When the inbox receives a new email, i get a push notification with the history id, sometimes two notifications

If i plug in the history id to the api, for example if i send off 14601 and 14615, then I get the same response from the api like this. no actual messages.

I get a 200 response with this response
{
 "historyId": "14618"
}

I usually do not receive any of the other objects in the response.

What am i doing wrong?

thanks

I have found this resource, but it is still unclear. I'm looking for sample code.

thanks

Regarding historyid, I am still entirely unclear:
What the historyid value i receive in push notifications is ?
Which event generates a new historyid?

thanks

This is an issue regarding the Gmail API, I recommend to to look into the Gmail API support[1] to have the better help.

Hi Nathan,
I have not received any satisfactory answers on stackoverflow. Are you able to have someone visit this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/53094981/when-is-new-gmail-api-history-id-generated

"You can also use push notifications to trigger partial synchronization in real-time and only when necessary, thereby avoiding needless polling." --

My question is HOW?  For me, the historyids returned by push notifications cannot be used, as the history list api returns no history records when using these history ids the push notification returns.

Can someone visit this ticket? or you have no control of that?

Thanks

I read that sentence as “push notifications are a way to get partial updates without polling.”  Meaning the answer to how is what you are already doing.
