Yes, I also experienced the same error while attempting to access my
Gmail account.

Looks like google apps (email) is down. Regular Gmail seems to work.

Yes, i have the 502 error currently also. location, Dallas, TX.

Unfortunately, I am.

I wonder if people will start thinking to back up their emails from
GMail due to these recent failures...

I have it as well (San Francisco) and so did a colleague in Spain.
We're using standard GMail, not commercial accounts.

both of my accounts (work and personal) work just fine.
 
I guess Google's mail service cloud has less presence in Europe.
This poses a question of service distribution across geographical regions or closer area.
In theory requests should be forwarded and served to/by closest nodes, say Germany or France,
so it becomes a bit sluggish, but should eventually work.
Weird, have Map/Reduce failed ? :)

Ok, so now I'm starting to wonder why ping and synthetic transactions are the basis of saas monitoring instead of twitters, forums, and email lists. Maybe that semantic cloud just announced here could be put to practical use.
