I'm planning on being in San Francisco next month for a couple meeting
(Morgan Stanley CTO Summit and Structure08 conference). I was
wondering if anyone might be interested in helping me organize a
(free) CloudCamp get-together for fellow cloud computing enthusiasts.
I was thinking of it doing possibly sometime around Structure08
conference (June 25th). The event would be an evening affair, about 3
- 4 hours in duration.

I'll probably be basing it on a similar theme to my "CloudCamp"
presentation I gave at Mesh yesterday.

If your interested in helping out or know of someone who is, please
send them my contact info.

We'll need the following
- Sponsors (Location, Food, Tech, advertising/ promotion, internet access, etc)
- Presenters (10 minute demos)
- Attendees

I'll be in San Francisco for Structure 08, and it would be great to meet
up with other people involved in cloud computing, from all sides, so
count me in as long as it's after the 25th.

Anybody interested for a CloudCamp in the Midwest?
We've got people in KC, could host at our Adknowledge site.

Recently there was an AWS presentation which drew 80 from the city.
Given some of the depts/labs regionally at U Iowa, UIUC, TAM, UW
Madison, KU, etc., we could pull together an interesting crowd.

We've had a spectacular amount of interest in CloudCamp SF, both from
a sponsorship and attendee level. Given this amount of interest, I
think it might be worthwhile to setup a conference call for late next
week for anyone interested in getting involved. From the feedback I've
received so far it looks like Tuesday the 24th of June (the day before
structure08) may work the best. Probably 5-8pm that evening.

If you think the conference call is a good idea please respond to this post.

I might be interested, I've also received interest in doing something
in New York and London. I was thinking of testing the initial
cloudcamp in San Francisco and seeing how it goes there first.

Based on the interest shown regarding a Cloud Computing Conference, I
felt it would be good to send a invite to those of you who would like to
attend LT Pack in Los Vegas. James Staten, Analyst of Virtual
Technologies at Forrester Research will be keynote speaking there. Andy
Schroepfer, Founder and Hosting Visionary of Tier 1 Research will be a
speaker as well. I have attached the invite with the details.

Thanks,
Jefferson

Looks interesting, thanks for sending us the info, too bad it's the
same time as Structure08. The event looks a little too analyst heavy
for my taste. I tend to prefer to hear from people who are actually
doing, not analyzing.

Hey Reuven,

I work in SF every day and will be attending Structure 08 as well.
Seems feasible to me. We have an office in SF very close to the
event. I could probably swing using the space with some advance
notice. I'll check into it next week after our little holiday.

Kent, we would love to have you involved. The folks at Sun have
graciously offered to sponsor the CloudCamp event so we may have a bit
of a budget to play with.

Con call might be hard w/ people all over the place and working
furiously. Maybe use the "Pages" function of this group to create an
Event page so everyone can "sign up" and have all the info in one
place?

I'm going to work on putting together a website at www.cloudcamp.com
on Moday. I'll also need some help putting together an agenda / topics
for discussion.

I'll send an update later in the day on Monday.

Quick update for anyone interested in CloudCamp in San Francisco

I'm happy to say we've had quite a bit of interested in the Cloudcamp
idea including a sponsorship by Sun.

The tentative date and time for the event will be June 24th 5-9pm.,
San Francisco, venue still to be selected.

If you would like to attend CloudCamp, please go to the wiki at
http://www.cloudcamp.com/wiki.361.0.html and add yourself to this
list. The more people we can get on the list, the easier it will be to
get sponsorship for the event. So please feel free to pass this news
around to anyone who might be interested in attending.

We still need people who are willing to moderate the various topics
(including deciding on some topics).

If anyone is interested in helping sponsor CloudCamp, or knows of
someone who might be, please let us know.

If you have any questions please feel free to reply this email or
visit the new cloudcamp website at : http://www.cloudcamp.com

(I'm working on the website so please ignore any errors or missing pages)

Hello CloudCampers,

My name is Dave Nielsen. I'm helping Reuven plan and manage
CloudCampSF on June 24th and possibly future camps. I thought I'd
introduce myself and let you know more about the session format we are
considering.

Keeping with the unconference *camp theme, I suggest we use the Open
Space format. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Space_Technology
or http://www.socialtext.net/web2open/index.cgi?the_open_grid). This
format helps keep the sessions interesting for two reasons:

1) Attendees often have more interesting things to say than presenters
and they are encouraged to help guide the conversation in each session
2) It keeps the session organizers honest b/c if you aren't enjoying a
session, you can vote with your feet and go to another session

Of course we can be flexible. So for those who want to pre-submit
session topics, we can find a way to accomodate you too. We are also
considering using one hour for 10 minute demos, but since we only have
4 hours we have to be careful with the schedule.

If you have any feedback, please let us know. And if you have
something interesting to discuss, we hope you come to CloudCamp and
post your topic on the open schedule wall.

Dave
