Hi,

Sorry for further questions.  Please let me confirm the pricing calculation.

https://cloud.google.com/vertex-ai/pricing#tabular-data

1. Training

  • Is the total pricing of Training : “$21.252” * “training time”, and I don’t need to consider the number of nodes?
  • If I need to multiply “number of nodes”, how can I get the number of nodes?
  • If I need to multiply “number of nodes”, what does “the number of nodes” relate to the training budget?   For example, if I specify 3 hours as the budget, which does it mean “3h * all nodes” or “3h / all nodes (e.g., 1h * 3 nodes)”?

2. Prediction

Does “40 n1-highmem-8” mean “n1-highmem-8 * 40 nodes”?

For example, the following batch is “n1-highmem-8 ($0.697820 / hour)”  * “40 nodes” * “19 min 10 sec / 1 hour”.  Is my understanding correct?

Regards,
Kazu

Hi Kazuhiko,

Thanks for reaching out. Please see the response below:

> 1. Training
> Is the total pricing of Training : “$21.252” * “training time”, and I don’t need to consider the number of nodes?

Training is flat rate, you can not customize the number of nodes, so you just need to use $21.252 * training_budget_millis_hours/1000

> If I need to multiply “number of nodes”, how can I get the number of nodes?
> If I need to multiply “number of nodes”, what does “the number of nodes” relate to the training budget?   For example, if I specify 3 hours as the budget, which does it mean “3h * all nodes” or “3h / all nodes (e.g., 1h * 3 nodes)”?

see above, no need to think about the number of nodes for training.

> Does “40 n1-highmem-8” mean “n1-highmem-8 * 40 nodes”?

Exactly.

> For example, the following batch is “n1-highmem-8 ($0.697820 / hour)”  * “40 nodes” * “19 min 10 sec / 1 hour”.  Is my understanding correct?

Yes, but your calculation will be just an approximation, because not all of the workers are brought up at the beginning of the job, so the effective usage can potentially be lower.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Best,
Yang

I often catch up on email after working hours. This is for my convenience and there is no expectation of a response until working hours begin again, unless marked as 'urgent'.
