Dear  Bappa and others,

I reviewed all three responses. In my conclusion, all three of  those replies are competitively bad for us. The fact is they have all declined to attend the Sept 12 meeting.

Under this situation, I think that we may not need to send such an elaborate response so quickly to them as that will only encourage them to continue this tone of aloofness towards us.

As such, we, as KCBA, representing 100+ bengalis here, need to lay our destiny in between opportunities and choices.

I think that at this moment we may send them a brief response like the following:

"
Dear <***>,

Your e-mail dated **/**/**** has been received. We have placed it to our members, community friends and supporting enterprises for review.

We are compelled to postpone our September 12, 2010 meeting as each of all three clubs, Pratichi, Sangam and BCL, has shown a lack of interest in it at this time.

We are always looking forward for positive and constructive discussions with all of you in this matter. We shall inform you our proposals and plans as directed by our members.

"

Thanks,
Debsankar

All,

I have read the responses from Sangam, Pratichi and BCL several times.  Sangam has declined to attend the meeting on 9/12/2010 and BCL has requested that the meeting be rescheduled after Durga Puja 2010. As such I think we should postpone this meeting until after Kali Puja and I have prepared the draft repsonse accordingly.

I also strongly feel that we should talk to Arun da (again) and Swapanda (BCL) personally  (between now and the meeting) and try to convince them to support our efforts.
I think we should send an email to all clubs indicating that Sept 12 meeting is postponed.

My draft response is attached. Open for comments and reviews................

Bappa

P.S. Took me two hours last night to compose this! I had to read it couple of times this morning as well.. so it took so long....

Dear Debshankar/et all,

I completely agree with you on  the point that we should not do anything in haste. I also agree with you that all clubs have declined (in some form of the other) to meet on Sept 12. So I suggested that we announce that the Sept 12 meeting  is postponed indefinitely.

I also liked your firm and short response very much.

But I differ with you on one point. All clubs have alleged that we wanted to do the Durga Pujo in 2011. We need to reply back against that allegation in writing and make it formal. We also need to keep the door open for now for further discussions regarding Durga Puja. As such I feel that we must repsond back quickly to clarify this issue.

All said and done, I  think our response should include what you have suggested and also a paragraph or two  to clear the air and keep the door open for discussions.

Bappa

My vote is for Bappa’s previous email.

·          We need to clarify our point clearly

·         Should postpone the meeting on 12th Sep

·         Should not postpone the date indefinitely

·         Suggest a suitable new date

·         Keep the door open… Keep on trying to pull them in one table for discussion about Durgapuja indefinitely… until we come to a solution…

Beside all our fun activities we should have the tenacity to continue and carry this hardship on until we win.

All,
When Arun Da called me on Fri, he specifically mentioned, "...Debashis, don't get upset with Pratichi's response. I have talked to Swapan and we are on the same page. If you assure that you can come with open mind and without precondition, even if Sangam is not in favor, Pratichi and BCL can vote to give you the best offer". When I asked about the offer, he just said, "Tumi nirash hobe na". Arun Da also mentioned that Pratichi club members are in compromising attitude. My best guess on the basis of Arun Da's response is that Pratichi and BCL both will come if they get a response from us that we are coming with no precondition. Arun Da was not sure about Sangam though.
I personally think that Pratichi doesn't have any issue coming to the meeting, but they don't want to fight with Sangam or BCL for us. BCL wants to postpone the meeting to protect their upcoming puja from any impact of their voting. Sangam's only intention is to save 2011 puja on their favor. We didn't get any reschedule request from Sangam or Pratichi. I personally don't wan't to postpone the meeting more than a month beyond just because BCL has Durga Puja in Oct.

Options:
1. A small (2-3 lines) email response stating that KCBA's intention all along is to conduct an open-minded discussion on the MSDP committee agreement on host rotation for MSDP Durga Puja. We should also mention that we didn't set any precondition to begin with. But, we should write it with little bit of attitude that it's our right to be in the cycle. We will take our decision if the decision is not in favor of us. I don't recommend doing that, but a hint of that attitude may help negotiate.
2. I will call Arun Da and ask directly if he & Swapan Da are in agreement on giving us turn on 2012. We don't want to compromise any further. Give us ans within 2 days. We tried to get you all three, but we failed. We don't want this to drag this any more. (or may be more politely)
3. Postpone the meeting after Durga Puja: We can show our consideration for BCL, but we'll make Sangam stronger than today to fight against us.

I still want to go ahead with the meeting on 12th. Neither of the 3 responses has strong justification for postponing the meeting, nor did it appear to be their primary request/intent.

We can have a meeting/conference call Wed evening 8 pm for 20-30 min to go over this after we have logistics ready for each of these solutions.

Thanks,
-Debashis

In the last line of my last response I meant "neither the 3
responses", and NOT " neither of the 3 responses"
