Hi all.

San Francisco did some work on updating the slides and have had some discussion about what to do about the format:

As much as I hate to bring this up again, I think there are some valid points about using straight html vs Markdown + a build tool.

So I think we should start by defining the goals of the slides:

1) Students can easily use the slides to interact with the ClojureBridge curriculum both in the workshop and on their own time, published to an accessible web site

2) Workshop teachers can easily use the slides

3) Workshop teachers, curriculum people, and students can easily update the slides

I ordered 2 above 3, but I think 3 is close behind 2 as the slides seem to be updated fairly often.

What do you think about those goals?

Bridget

ps. If you would like to take a look at how RailsBridge does it, see here: https://github.com/railsbridge/docs/tree/master/sites/en

My concerns with any build tool here are:

* must work easily on all platforms - so no shell scripts or weird install / setup / run stuff

* must not require complex / fussy software that may interfere with the contributors normal machine setup

The particular suggestion this time was Pandoc which really fails on both of those counts, despite Buro's protests about there being a Windows installer etc.

If we truly expect students to be able to contribute (and I think that's an optimal goal), then the process needs to be as simple as editing a file, unless the software to produce HTML is really, really simple.
