If you are not modifying/reusing the licensed source code
in your own code and are using the licensed software as a binary component
then what you create on top of it is your own.
I you touch the source code of the licensed software in any way then it becomes
more complex. You have to make the source code of your mods
available (assuming you distribute your software in any way)
and it has to be licensed under the EPL.
And this may in turn restrict how you license your own creation.
If you avoid the latter case, you should be fine.
