Revive goal of surefire reports for clojure tests

I'd really like to be able to do unit tests with clojure, it's a great way to start using a new language alongside other work. I need to be able to put documentation from these tests in a Maven site, however, and the surefire report looks like the best option.

The clojure-maven-plugin just defers to clojure.test.junit for the report it provides with the test-with-junit goal. Would it require making changes in clojure itself to enable this? Would it be feasible to run the tests from the Mojo and then build a surefire report myself?

Just looking for a little guidance before I stomp off into the wild that is maven plugins.
