I agree totally... 1st apple tv loving it for me and the wife. But parental support for restrictions for my 3 children not very well thought out. Family movie night browsing movies selections don't want see MILF or the blood covered movie title and the other inappropriate titles while looking at new arrivals looking for Disney movies or other G,PG, PG-13. Something should be done ASAP.? I love what apple has been offering for the devices but more control over them in the user hands would be more appreciated then these devices could be in every childs room... IJMS
4. Configure your new profile with whatever name you like, and a different "sign-in" name than your normal account. This is where you can set the profile to only allow certain content ratings. Set them up as you see fit. Click "Save."
5. Go back to your AppleTV. Logout of the current Netflix account, and log back in using the Account Profile sign-in ID you created on the Netflix web site. Yes, I know AppleTV says to put in your email address, but just put in the Account Profile sign-in instead.
It's working for me. I have my AppleTV set to login under a profile with parental controls, not the main account login. I just checked it again just now, and it's working fine. Maybe it's something with your account?
Ok, I should clarify... streaming to a computer or streaming to a Wii will not work unless you are logged into your main profile (Owner Profile). I am not completely sure about AppleTV, however, based on my conversations with Netflix support, they said that any kind of online streaming from Netflix must be done through the main (owner) account due to agreements between Netflix and the media companies providing the content.
apple please create a way to remove everything like search/genre/suggestion/tv shows and leave only instant queue and just for kids. There are so many familes with kids dont want there kids to access anything above pg
netflix start with 500 queue which was great 500 titles 250 kids 250 adult , apple need to add netflix setting to disable the search/ genre and when is off we get instant queue / just for kids two links.
Netflix is a great way to distract the little kids, it is also filled with a lot of content not suited for younger audiences. Now although Netflix has the kids section, it wont take a child long to realize that if they click in the corner they can find Power Rangers, Family Guy or worse. It's also not hard for them to accidentally get on a slew of other apps that could lead to ebay purchases, calls to china or something worse.
Don't fear though, on the iPad and iPhone there is an option to keep Netflix truly child safe. Using the built in feature, Guided Access, it's possible to lock the iPad to only the Netflix app as well as lock certain parts of the screen or disable the screen completely. This will effectively keep kids where there suppose to be, having safe family fun.
Once you are in Netflix, triple click the home button. Enter the password that you previously created. Once the password is entered you will be able to disable portions of the screen by outlining them. It's also possible to disable the whole screen to lock them to a specific show.
Reset app, check fir firmware upgrade, factory reset TV, unplugged from mains and just about anything else I can think of including talking to Netflix who say the issue is not with them. Netflix is completely stable on my laptop, tablet and phone.
Welcome to the community. I'm not sure if you've seen this previous topic with similar issues, it might have some other tests/checks you can try. There are also some troubleshooting guides for your TV here.
I have exactly the same issue on my bravia 50w829b. It used to happen in the past from time to time but last month it's like that all the time. Yes - logout completely from netflix and login again typing credentials manually worked out for me also, but this is ridiculous. I am after extensive logs/test data exchange between sony & netflix regarding this issue but Netflix checked it out and told me they can't do anything here. Hopefully they'll find the solution soon because this is extremely annoying and looks like nobody cares to fix it (that's why I sent a lot of technical info including images & technical data to Sony to help them reproduce the defect). Please send this issue to sony also, so they can know this is not one person's problem.
Hi everyone - I just moved into a new house that came with a lovely Sony tv and I'm having this problem. Netflix will work for a bit, and then decide that it doesn't want to anymore and as soon as I press play on something it kicks me to a black screen that says HDMI 1/MHL at the top, with a little box that's got an arrow coming in from the left. Anyone got any answers yet? I don't know what model the TV is... if anyone knows where I'll find that info, lemme know. It's wall mounted so I can't see behind the tv itself haha... THANKS = )
I'm getting the run around by Sony Australia. First suggested to do a factory reset of the TV which I did. This did not solve the issue. They also suggested a log off from all devices via the Netflix website. Did make a difference the first few goes, but issue is back after just a few viewing sessions.
They then suggested changes to the Network DNS which does not make sense IMHO. Also a dead end. They are now suggesting that there is something wrong with the motherboard and I should get it replaced, of course for a fee... IMHO this is total nonsense as there is nothing wrong with the other apps and just an attempt to have me give up on pursuing this any further. The only way that this could solve problems if it was a compatibility issues between the revision of the motherboard I'm using and Netflix. If that is the case I shouldn't be paying for the fix...
One of the support staff did make mention of a Netflix software roll-out recently which was causing playback issues, but apparently this was rolled back. This makes a lot more sense and IMHO, there is a bug in the Netflix app which causes the playback issues.
So to cut a long story short, Sony support has no idea what the issue is and although I have provided them with all the info I don't have any hope this will be resolved by them. The only hope we have is that Netflix fixes the bug soon in a future release of the software.
From reboots to originals, Netflix is full of entertainment for kids. Of course, it also has tons of age-inappropriate shows that kids could easily stumble across. The good news is that Netflix allows parents to restrict access to mature content so kids can only watch shows geared for their age. To enable parental controls on Netflix, you first have to create a user profile for your kid.
You can set a few parental controls through the Netflix app, but you get more options by going through your account on a web browser. Parental controls are just one way to help your kid learn to make appropriate choices and manage screen time independently. They work best with conversation about why you're restricting access.
An individual passcode ensures that each person in the household can only access their account. It prevents kids from accessing parents' profiles or siblings from watching each other's shows. You can also change your kid's passcode if you don't want them accessing their account at all.
Do you need parental controls? What are the options? Do they really work? Here's everything you need to know about the wide array of parental control solutions, from OS settings to monitoring apps to network hardware.
With Netflix, you can set up a kid's profile in the app and set a PIN to restrict movies and TV shows based on their rating. Hulu lets you create a special profile just for kids where they can watch appropriate programs in the Kids hub.
You can set parental controls on YouTube Kids by enabling age-based content settings to display videos suitable for your child's age. Another option is to use the 'approve content' feature that disables the video search function, and will recommend videos based on what your child previously watched. In addition, you can also set specific time limits for video watching in your child's profile settings.
Almost half of households worldwide are estimated to have a computer at home. And for young kids, such a shared family computer is often the first window into the internet. So here are 3 ways to block YouTube on computers:
Chrome is the go to browser on most computers today. Extensions are a neat way to add supplementary features to the standard Chrome browser. The "Block Site" extension allows you to block any specific website of your choice. So here's how you can use it to block YouTube:
Parents can block YouTube completely with Mobicip (find out how to block apps in general). Mobicip allows parents to restrict any app or game available on the iOS Appstore or Google Play. You can also block apps even before they are downloaded by your children!
Mobicip allows parents to block specific websites on their child's computer or laptop (Chromebook, Windows & Mac). So blocking the YouTube website is pretty straightforward as shown in the steps below.
Mobicip allows parents to block specific apps on their child's iOS & Android device(s). You can even block an app in advance, even before it is downloaded! So blocking the YouTube app is pretty straightforward as shown in the steps below. But please note that your children might still be able to access YouTube on a browser. To also block the YouTube website on iOS & Android browsers, please follow the steps outlined in the previous section (How to Block YouTube on Computers & Laptops).
Whether you're concerned about privacy, don't want friends "dropping in" uninvited, or just want Alexa to stop repeating your questions and commands back to you, here are six features you should disable in the Alexa app right now.
Over the past few years, Amazon has very slowly been ramping up the use of Hunches, those follow-up questions Alexa asks you after you interact. Sometimes these suggestions are helpful, for instance offering to lock your door at night or suggesting a new way to use timers, but they can also be annoying and disruptive when you're in the middle of a phone call and don't want to have to tell your voice assistant to stop talking.
