TRAFFIC ALERT-UPDATED RELEASE

Weekend Closures of Route 202 Northbound and Southbound at I-95 Interchange to Begin on Saturday Morning

 

Public Advised to Avoid Construction & Seek Alternate Routes

 

 

Wilmington- The Department of Transportation is advising the traveling public that the removal of the old bridge transiting Route 202, from I-95 northbound to U.S. Route 202 northbound will require two weekend closures of Route 202 in both directions at the I-95 interchange.

 

The closure of Route 202 in both the northbound and the southbound direction will begin at 5 AM on Saturday, January 26 and continue until 5 AM on Monday morning, January 28.  The closure and construction had been slated to begin at 10 PM tonight (Friday), but has been rescheduled for tomorrow morning due to inclement weather.  The contractor will also close Route 202 the following weekend at 10 PM on Friday, February 1 until Noon on Sunday, February 3, pending weather. 

 

To go south along U.S. Route 202 southbound to Wilmington: Traffic on southbound U.S. Route 202 will be detoured onto southbound I-95 to Exit 7A-B, Delaware Ave. Traffic will then go north on Jackson Street, make a left onto 9^th Street, make a left onto Adams Street, take the ramp to northbound I-95, take Exit 8 Concord Pike Wilmington.

 

To go south along U.S. Route 202: Traffic on southbound I-95 will be detoured to Exit 7A-B Delaware Avenue, proceed north on Jackson Street, make a left onto 9^th Street, make a left on to Adams Street, take the ramp to northbound I-95, take Exit 8 Concord Pike Wilmington. (This detour is now in effect due to the permanent closing of Exit 8A southbound I-95).

 

To go north along U.S. Route 202 out of Wilmington and to go southbound on I-95: All traffic will be detoured onto the ramp to northbound I-95 to Marsh Road, then to southbound I-95, Exit 8B, to north U.S. Route 202, or stay on  southbound I-95 to go south.

 

To go north along I-95 from southbound U.S. Route 202, traffic will take the ramp from southbound U.S. Route 202 to northbound I-95.

Variable message boards will be placed to notify motorists of the upcoming closures.

 

All closures are pending weather conditions and will be postponed to the following weekend, if inclement conditions exist.
