What I wanted to say at the meeting the other night was that I
listened to the tape of the Capital Budget hearing with the Finance and
Administration Committee and learned about a $3 million appropriation for
farmland preservation--one of my favorite subjects. Then Adam's article
appeared in the newspaper and I learned that someone intends to cut that
out of the Budget, so the County will lose the State matching funds that will
insure that New Castle County farms are preserved.
I went to the Dept. of Ag website and studied the situation
and learned to what extent Kent and Sussex County preservation have been
subsidized by this county. It's not fair, and from what I have known for
years about the State program, it cannot be changed unless we enact our own
program to use at least part of the real estate transfer taxes that are sent to
Dover to the State program. An ordinance to create a County program will
be taken up next Tuesday.
Can I get the attached article sent
to the entire membership? If there are members who are still as supportive
of farmland preservation as they were a few years ago, we can help on this
subject. Who is in charge at this point.
Chuck, I hope you are o.k. We
missed you the other night.
Christine
P.S. Is tCbu...@nccde.org in our Directory a
typographical error? Should it be TC or just C?
