defrule vs deffunction

Hello,

Is there a rule of thumb on when you can use a deffunction in place of defrule or vice versa? I am very compfortable using deffunction and I can do almost everything using if then else. I am suspecting that this could also lead to performance issuez and I think defrule would be better. So, I am not sure what are the recommendations?

If you find it easier to solve the problem using procedural code rather than rules, you're probably not solving a problem well suited for rules.
