Hi there,
I used to have it working, but direct login no longer works with
Firefox. I'm in Firefox 8.0.1 for Mac, with no extensions.
I have tried beta and gamma versions, but the same problem occurs.
When I click on a direct login link I go to an about:blank page and a
"loading blahblah..." message appears, but nothing else happens.

Do you know what I do wrong, or can I contribute in fixing the
problem? Thanks a lot for your help.

Yours,
Jordi

Hi Jordi,
first of all my apologies for taking so long in getting back to you.

I'm personally using Clipperz in your same environment and I've no such issue.

Could you try to login to our demo account:
- user: joe
- password: clipperz
and try the Twitter and LinkedIn direct logins. I've done these steps
right now and everything works fine.

Let me know the outcomes of this little test.

Thanks and my best wishes for a great 2012.
Marco

Hi Marco,
I am still facing the same problem. I used your test account and see that Amazon.com is working, but Delicious is not, for example.
The problem I have is that I see the "Loading X...", then after some seconds I see the second "Loading X..." again (in h2) and nothing happens. I just updated to 9.0.1 to see if that fixed the problem but it doesn't. Again, disabled all the extensions for the tests.

Maybe it has something to do with security settings or pop-up blocker?
Thanks for your help,

Hi Jordi,
from what you write I'm afraid that the problem is not with your
browser, but with sites that do not allow Clipperz direct login to
work ...

Unfortunately more and more sites are adding "security features"
(checking for cookie or sessions info) that make configuring a direct
login harder, when not completely impossible.

Giulio wrote a simple tutorial for when a direct login does not work.
It provides some useful techniques to overcome some of the most
commons problems, but it's far from solving the whole issue.
http://groups.google.com/group/clipperz/browse_thread/thread/68d1ce7e9d3bc819/7d7489f98748d978
I agree that direct logins failures could be very frustrating and we
are actively thinking about some countermeasures.
Any inputs on the subject is very welcome!
Thanks,Marco

Interesting. Reading this has made me realise I can't remember the last time I used a direct login.
I have the URL as an entry in the card so I can quickly get to the login page then quickly copy and paste the login info. I use Clipperz everyday and this is just a natural thing to do. I don't miss direct logins at all.

Hello Jordi,

sorry for the very late answer.

There could be different kind of problems with direct logins; one has
already been illustrated by Marco, and I can only confirm that some
sites login form just can't work with our direct logins.

But if the page is stuck into the "Loading …" part, it is possible
that something else is going wrong.

The card could be corrupted, and so Clipperz can not load its content
correctly and the direct login page is not finalized; this is very
easy to check, as you just need to try to load the matching card and
see if it is correctly loaded.

But some users have reported also a different type of problem, where
the index card gets a little screwed up, and the relationship between
direct logins and their cards is messed up. Fortunately, there is a
little tedious but not too complicated procedure to fix things up:
- export your data (any format will suit, as it is just a convenient
way to let the application load and decrypt all the data of your
account);
- once the export operation is done, open a card and make a simple
change (like adding a space to the note field) and save; this will
force the rebuild of the index card with all the correct references,
as all the cards have been previously read.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Giulio Cesare
