Hi all,

maybe I'm missing something, in which case pls drop me a keyword and
I'll start over trying to figure out how to do this:

I just want a way to store my bookmarks (what I mean is "plain"
bookmarks, no direct logins) in a central (i.e. web-based) service,
but in a secure way, i.e. encrypted on the server, i.e. zero-knowledge-
system like clipperz. I have not managed to find any other encrypted
(!) online bookmark manager, so I looked into clipperz. Looks great,
offers a good tool for what it is made for (not "plain" bookmarks I
recon), great job guys!

Using Clipperz to save a "plain" bookmark, basically, I would make a
simple card and then use clipperz compact in the side bar of FF to
access the links. However, it seems only direct logins are offered in
clippery compact. Can I change that somehow, i.e. show all cards where
a URL is defined? That would already help a lot, as I'm unable to
figure out how to make a "direct login" code segment that does nothing
more than to load a plain URL.

Then, to make clipperz compact more convenient, something like drag
and drop for bookmarks / urls would be handy. My idea (dream?) would
be something like this:
1) Open clipperz compact in the sidebar
2) log in
3) Clipperz Compact is loaded and shows bookmarks + direct logins
4) To add a bookmark, drag + drop the URL from the URL bar of FF into
the clipperz compact sidebar and drop it.
5) Clipperz Compact brings up a popup that contains the features to
create a card, i.e. ask for a title and allow the URL to be corrected
(and tags to be added / folder to be selected etc to allow some
grouping - I understand Tagging is underway in a future version).

Alternatively, just have a button in clipperz compact or another
bookmarklet to one-click create a new plain bookmark entry in
clipperz. Just ideas....

Appreciate if someone kicked me in the right direction to at least use
clipperz compact as it is now to add "plain" bookmarks. Beyond that,
would love to see bookmark management by drag + drop through the
compact version.

Having the above would make clipperz a great secrure bookmark manager.
Or is there such a service somewhere already and I just can't google
it?

Best regards!

Hello,

at the moment Clipperz is not really suited to be used as a secure
bookmark manager. We had a few requests on this same topic, but we
chose to focus on our own specificities other than entering the
bookmark manager arena that is already very crowded.

At the moment there is an option to store "simple" url as direct
login, but the "user experience" for setting this up is very far away
from your (reasonable) expectations, due to the different target goal
we had in mind when we designed and implemented the current version of
the application.

In order to setup a direct login with a simple URL, you may resort to
the "HTTP auth" direct login template available into the "Tools"
section of our application.
This configuration contains three fields: url. username, password.
But due to how HTTP auth works, if you leave username and password
blank and set just the url, it will behave just as a plain link.

This will allow you to have your list of links in the compact version too.

But, as I said earlier, this is just an hack, so don't be to harsh on
us when you will realize that the "user experience" for setting up
your bookmark collection really sucks. ;-)

About the option to drag&drop the url from the url bar to the compact
edition window, I am not even 100% positive that this is technically
achievable; but definitely worth some further investigation, even if
it would have probably been already implemented by del.icio.us & co.
if it was really feasible.

Thanks for the comments.

Best regards,

Giulio Cesare
