Hi. As a non-technical user, I have been using Clipperz as a password manager for well over 10 years and never had a problem or issue.  My wife wants to switch to a paid password manager, such as "1Password", because she thinks it may be more secure.  Apparently, 10 + years of no problems or issues is insufficient for her.

So, two simple questions - Has any Clipperz user had their account and/or passwords hacked or otherwise accessed without their permission?  And, is Clipperz still a secure password manager?

Thank you,

Ed

Hello Ed,

we are not aware of any account being hacked, nor accessed without
their permission.
A friend of mine has put a canary account on Clipperz to verify
himself if/when we get hacked, and each time I meet him is almost
surprised that the canary account hasn't triggered yet; I don't know
the details, so it may also just mean that the canary has not been
properly configured. 🤪

Anyway, the main reason Clipperz is still around is that we use it
daily ourselves and moving all our data to a different tool is more
effort than keep Clippers running.
But we are still actively work on it, even though at a very reduced speed.
The brand new version (behave just like /delta, but has been rewritten
from scratch) is alive, even if just in a preview mode:

I understand that these arguments are not a good match for the
uncomfortable feeling of your wife, but I don't have any better
argument to make, as we like it boring
(https://clipperz.is/blog/2017/12/24/reliability/).

Cheers,

Giulio Cesare

FWIW., I have used Clipperz for as along as I can remember. At least a dozen years in my feeble memory. I've never been hacked and have never heard of a Clipperz hack.

I've asked friends who work in software security to let me know if they see vulnerabilities. No guarantees in life, but no one I've asked has responded.
