Basic posting to clio using C# and .NET

Hello Clio Community.  I'm assisting a dev team with writing records from an ms sql database to a client of ours that uses clio.  We've began development of our app and we've successfully sent several get-requests with our credentials.  Initially we will just create basic contact info and any matters associated with that contact.  What is the correct order of operation for for accomplishing this?  Should we just generate an incrementing id for each contact as a custom field and when the matter is created pass that same value to relate the two entities?  Besides just creating the contact and matter entities, are there other required entities that have to be related to those two?  A flowchart would be super helpful.  Thank you kindly.

I'm sure my response is a little late, but I wanted to let you know that I'm in the process of putting together a C# devkit for http://www.AlphaDriveForClio.com/  that makes it super easy to build your own C# apps for Clio without worry about all the API plumbing.  I'll post here once I have it published.
