BIG NEWS. Soltego has patented new SIK Inhibitors for tanning.
I got access to the article on Bioworld Science, which reads:
Soltego has patented serine/threonine-protein salt-inducible kinase (SIK) inhibitors reported to be useful for skin tanning and the treatment of rosacea. An exemplified compound (SLT-008) inhibited human SIK1, SIK2 and SIK3 activity (IC50 = 5, 8 and > 20 nM, respectively) in [gamma-33P]-ATP-based scintillation counting assays. It induced melanin pigmentation in basal layer of epidermis and exhibited good DNA protection by reducing thymine dimers and apoptotic cell formation in ex vivo human living skin explants with stripping in the presence of UVB irradiation using Fontana-Masson staining method with no significant change in cell viability. The compound concentration-dependently increased melanin deposition and capping in reconstructed normal human epidermal keratinocytes co-cultured with melanocytes (at 0.0033-0.3 mcg/mL in Fontana-Masson staining method and 0.1-1 mcg/mL in chemical extraction quantification). The compound showed no morphological changes (at 0.003-0.3 mcg/mL; H&E staining method) and no alteration of tissue integrity (at 0.11-0.1 mcg/mL; LDH release assays) in reconstituted human melanized epidermis (WO 2022061312).
The 85 page patent filing is available for viewing here, which suggests they are filing for multiple SIK-inhibitors. The main one is named SLT-008 (presumably SLT = Soltego)!
This is very exciting news. Its unlikely they would file a patent unless the scientists had also tested the topical agent on their own skin. They also kept the skin explants 'alive' in the tests and they worked. Given that some company representatives have said it will be out in 18 months, I think it’s best to stay conservative and say 3-4 years so we don't get disappointed. However, it would appear they are making real progress, and we will hopefully have a save alternative to Melanotan and Afamelanotide.
Yeah my only issue with melanotan 2 and 1 is that you need UV exposure for good results
Clinuvel patented CUV9900 years ago - and 10 years after first mentioning it, it has yet to even go into clinical trials. Patents are patents. In 1991 there was a patent for a topical that tanned the skin...and it never reached market. At least they are still working on some things, but patents don't necessarily lead to commercialization. In fact, they usually don't.
Thanks for this update u/oliver_ubud. I was wondering if there is something new. I really appreciate you effort
No problem. I hope they can bring something out sooner rather than later.
I wonder if this would be useful for people with Vitiligo, I definitely have some patches that could benefit from increased melanin production
It’s gut wrenching. With the guys at Clinuvel continuing to disappoint and soltego being at least another 5 to 10 years away I think it’s fair to say, it’s time to give up. Just gut wrenching and adding Years of stress waiting on nothing happening.
It’s crazy. Right now, I believe they have the capability to do it.
But with regularity bodies and more greedy wigs at the top wanting more and more, it’s simply time to say goodbye.
Reach for the fake tan. Even at 40 sadly. 20 years I’ve been waiting for this. It’s crazy! Just crazy.
For anyone else following this recent explosion of posts from them under the Lightskinscience name, which has included influencers and more over the last few days. Does anyone know if this is actually to do with anything we want? A tanning product?
The only evidence I have seen is one reply by one of the influencers on Instagram saying an over-the-counter product is happening soon. But that's vague and I don't know how accurate or if it's a tanning product. Apart from that, it seems like this project is to teach people about the sun's dangers, which seems underwhelming since I think people already know all of this.
I really hope it is building to a product launch.
