Hello
I live in Clinton Hill and recently got a dog a few months ago, he is a hound and with his super duper nose, we dont feel comfortable with him running off leash in Ft Greene as a squirrel across the street might make him chase after it. Doing some research on dog runs in the area, or lack of, lead me to this group. I am just curious if there are any updates on possible locations for dog runs in the future, or if there are any petitions to sign to help get one in the area as its something I'd like to see.
Please let me know
Adam

If it's any consolation, the squirrels are too smart to come out during off leash hours. Though a friend's Beagle did run back to his apartment with dead squirrel once (leaving his owner in the park perplexed).

There is probably going to be a fenced dog run at Myrtle Village Green on Myrtle between Kent and Franklin. http://www.myrtlepark.org/  The space was cleared out by the City so they could construct an access tunnel to an aqueduct extension.  Because of the access tunnel the city didn't want to open up the area to development, so they handed it over to a community organization to make it a community park/garden space.  They've reached out to this group to help them in the planning and implementation of building a fenced in dog run.  Currently it's still in the planning stage, though volunteers may be needed eventually to help with clearing the site, laying down sand or wood-chips, and constructing the fences.

Hey Adam,

Are you aware that Steuben Park is 100% fenced in and is now an official off-leash dog park?  It's at the intersection of Flushing Avenue & Williamsburg Street West, or Park Avenue & Steuben Street if that makes more sense to you.

Hi Matt,
Could you show us where you are seeing a record that this is an official off leash run?  Which department is maintaining it?

Thanks,
Stephanie

No problem.  I'll go down there this morning and take a picture of the signs that they have up around the park.

Sorry, I'm a day late in getting this picture to everyone.

I took it this afternoon at Steuben Park.

very cool. Just checked it out the other day sans dog. It looks like its off leash from  9-9, was hoping to find something during the day.
Is there anyone to contact at the MyrtlePark site to show support of the project?
Thanks

Hi All,
I just learned that there is a meeting tonight in the BIG lot on myrtle between kent & franklin aves regarding what kind of dog run will be created.  Everyone is welcome to attend but dog owners are encouraged to join.  It's at 7PM and its a crucial decision making meeting regarding only the dog run (the lot is also going to be a community space, garden park etc.)  There are only 4-5 people planning this run and we really like everyone's input before putting a plan into place.  It should be a short meeting just walking the space and discussing the designs we have developed to choose one.

Here is the link to the site:

Hope that you can make it!  Bring your pups!
Best,
~ Steph
