Hi All,

I'm wondering if you know of any NY/NJ area beaches were dogs are
allowed off leash. I'd like to take my baby to the beach this Memorial
weekend.

Thanks!

I go often to Plumb Beach and I've never seen a cop or been ticketed or hassled in any way. And I see other dogs there on occasion, too. I go all seasons, at any time of day. The only thing is the beach is dirty, with both natural and man-made debris. So forewarned. Since it's Jamaica Bay, there is no surf to speak of, and if you go when the tide is out, you can walk really far on sand flats and the water is actually pretty clean.

Jacob Riis Park (Breezy Point, Queens) will let you bring your dog, but only from Labor Day through Memorial Day weekend.  I don't think they'll allow it this weekend, but for future reference you can go there on a particularly sunny day between Labor Day and Memorial Day.  The beach is nice and not very busy.

Camp Hero in Montauk allows dogs year round.

I don't know about New Jersey, but you can find beaches that allow dogs on DogFriendly here: http://www.dogfriendly.com/server/travel/guides/beach/beachstateNJ.shtml
