I've seen several questions about this, but never an answer. On several streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Paramount, etc, I was getting a black screen with no video and could only hear the audio. I use Chrome, but checked Safari and was also getting the issue. I followed all of the troubleshooting steps on Netflix's website; still nothing. However, I found a fix so I wanted to share:

Unfortunately, this doesn't help my issue at all. I have been struggling with this ever since I bought a MacBook Pro. This issues happens with Hulu, Paramount+, Peacock, etc. I can't rely on my Mac to stream video. I have to get my iPad Pro for that ?. I tried Safari, Chrome, and Edge and issue is the same every time. I think this is a Mac related issue rather than a browser issue. I am going to contact apple support on this and will update here.

I have been struggling with this forever and couldn't figure out why it was so intermittent. I finally figured out why on my system it was happening. I use multiple screens and will stream while I work. While working I sometimes need to create a video of my screen so I'll pause the streaming, and open up Camtasia to record my screen. If any screen recording software is open all the streaming services will only show black screen with audio. Make sure you have any software that records your screen is closed out. For me that is Snagit, Camtasia, Vidyard, ect.

I had similar problem. I have macbook2023 connected to monitors through dell d6000 universal docking station. Since dell uses DisplayLink technology.. as soon as I connect MacBook to docking station .. currently running Netflix video turns blank with audio streaming on...

I have also been struggling with this forever too. It started again this morning and thankfully found this post. I had my iPad plugged in as a monitor and it turns out this was the cause! Can't believe I'd never noticed this correlation either. Thanks for solving this mystery!

So it was a crashed background process which led to the black screen issue. The Mac even said "Your screen is being observed" at the user login. That may could happen with similar recording software / screen recordings as well.

Just talked to thew Apple Tech support and got a resolution. This is happening due to an interference from one of the "Login items" load during the startup and running in the background. In my case, it was the DisplayLink drive I have installed to support multiple monitors. When I disable the DisplayLink, the issue was resolved immediately. If you don't use DisplayLink, you can troubleshoot the issue by starting Mac in the Safe Mode. Please follow steps below.

Please stream videos in the SafeMode and see if the issue exists. If you can watch videos in the Safe Mode, then issues is with one of the login items and/or extension you have installed. Please restart the Mac. After that, start disabling login items one-by-one to find the defective item.

oh man, but this doesn't help much if you don't use chrome at all and you are still getting the black screen. this is such a puzzle and I am really really surprised no one has found causes and fixes for this yet. like its happening at least twice a month for me now on any streaming that isn't Netflix and I ONLY use safari.(but I still checked the others and they all have same prob too) I have done so much troubleshooting, restarting, turning off any ad blockers and pop up blockers, clearing cache (pain the the rear too that one), and logging in and out of everything all the way to restarting the internet and computer for a full restart cycle. I just wanted to watch some wheel of time on my day off. surely, someone out there knows why this is happening? (MacBook Pro with M1 and Ventura)

Same issue. Was able to make the changes in Chrome and am able to have both sound and video when screen mirroring to TV. Still black screen when trying to screen mirror movie purchased from Apple TV from Mac to TV. Works perfectly when using iPad. Odd.

Was trying to Chromecast Screen or Apple Mirroring The Matrix on Max.com and filter it via ClearPlay but the video was not showing up only the audio... Tried updating/upgrading chrome, ClearPlay extension and nothing... Came across this amazing apple community post and BAM... was able to Chromecast Screen or Apple Mirroring with video and audio... Thanks for taking the time to post.

THANK YOU for this comment!!!! This is what solved my problem! I checked all my apps that records screens and they were not running. I have been trying to figure this one out for so long. Why on earth does iPad sidecar cause this? That is so crazy!

This can be done, but wide monitors a pretty expensive, I would rather by 2 cheaper screens and use it on one pc. Or get the nice wide screen for working from home and a chep second screen for the Zwift pc.

Problem is both my work desk and the trainer desk will be quite narrow, so the single base would be quite awsome. But hearing you guys I might have to reconsider my options. Unfortunately, a wall-mount is no option for me. What I was thinking was something like a LG 35" Curved 35WN75C as that would be an awsome solution for a home-office setup, but if thats not a good solution for my zwifting as well I might as well try something else.

O I do not suggest moving that monitor stand around. My idea was you keep your current 2 screens on the monitor stand and get another screen for working from home, that will be cheaper than a super big curved monitor.

Use Splashtop Wired XDisplay to turn your iPad, Android tablet, Kindle or smartphone into a high-performance second display for your computer. Connect your device or tablet to your computer for a second monitor!

So far, the R5 C feels like a rushed product to me, especially when it comes to the firmware/software in the camera. When I'm shooting in video mode, sometimes my R5 C's monitor will spontaneously go black for a moment and then just pop back on. It's very strange. It does this when I press record sometimes. I've owned an original C300, a C200 and I currently own a C300 III and a C500 II. I've had every cinema EOS camera except a C300 II, and I've never seen the sort of erratic, inconsistent behavior I am currently seeing with the R5 C.

Additionally, the failure to achieve Netflix certification for this camera is very disappointing. How Canon managed to take a brand new cinema camera, with a brand new 8K sensor that shoots raw, and then fail the Netflix certification is beyond me. I feel like the R5C has so much potential, it just badly needs a solid firmware update to make it more reliable and unlock the restricted features Canon has implemented into the camera.

I am guessing the R5C failed the Netflix certification because of their decision to withhold C-Log 2 from that camera. If this is the case, I applaud Netflix for this decision, because Canon is effectively reducing the dynamic range of their CINEMA badged, pro camera with their own firmware. I purchased the R5C to use as a B camera to my C300 III, and I really do not want to shoot in Clog3 on my C300 III and reduce the A camera's dynamic range, just to accommodate the B camera. It makes no sense to reduce the quality and functionality of your A camera because Canon is holding back Clog 2 on the R5C. Because of this, I have to explain to my editor why he has to use two different LUTs on what is supposed to be two, matching, Canon cinema cameras.

Canon update the R5C's firmware and unleash it's potential!!

I wonder whether the issue you were experiencing with the R5C's monitor going black is because the Viewfinder is set to engage when you hover over it, which automatically turns the R5C's monitor off? If so there is definitely a way to disable that feature in the menu.

That a good point. I'm sure there is a setting for EVF proximity, although I don't use it myself. I have not had the LCD on my device shut off unintentionally and have found the proximity sensor below the EVF to be very accurate sensing when my face is close to it. I generally keep my LCD closed in photo mode, so this would only apply in CinemaOS.

I bought the hp envy 360 a bit over a year now and 3 days ago I notticed the flickering while watching netflix and sometimes on youtube; When it flickers, is every second almost and with each flickering I see some green pixel like squares, almost like a volume graphic (I'm sorry my computer vocabulary is poor and this is the only way I can describe it); I installed the silverlight and I always use chrome or firefox so Is not an edge browser problem in fact, Im not even sure what the problem is and I would hate to already have a problem with this relatively new laptop. Help anybody?

I've tried everything you said, the BIOS and graphics update, the windows10 update and the full PC reset which was a pain since I had to re install a lot of things and yet, nothing, the screen keeps flickering with this green volume graphic-like squares and it happens pretty much every second so its impossible to ignore. It does happen only when watching netflix and sometimes youtube. Maybe there's a way I can send you a video so you see exactly what I'm talking about?

I dont use the app on my laptop, I just click on the tab to go to the website, I do use the app on my Ipad and no problems there, only on my laptop and still, since I also have the problem with youtube I don't think is a netflix problem.

When you say your computer becomes completely unresponsive, can you go into more detail?
E.g. it takes a moment (or a couple of moments) for the sceen to show again vs. screen never wakes up again.
