Dear Piyush

Thank you so much for your reply, and sharing the co-ordinates of all the concerned at the Department of Biotechnology.

Since I am marking this mail to all, the cooperation from each and every one of you will be highly appreciated.

The Office of Alumni Affairs is trying very hard to get all the students of both UG & PG to sign up on the official IITM Student/Alumni list - www.100pins.com/signup/IITM. We are closely working with the team of International and Alumni Relations (Dean Dr. Nagarajan, Mr. Suresh (Vice President), and Mr. Rohit Kothari (Secretary) in achieving this goal.

It will very nice if you could communicate this to all students at the Department of Biotechnology, and ask them to signup.

We team here would be very grateful for the co-operation, and time spent on this.
I have attached Dean Prof. Nagarajan's letter with this mail. Thank you.

As you are aware, IIT Madras has about 40,000 alumni. And almost all of them are (of course) highly accomplished, and in top positions – in corporates, universities and governments, across the world.

That's a huge community, that can be really useful to the students. However, today there is unfortunately no place where the students of IIT Madras can see a comprehensive, updated – and rich – database of their own own alumni.

What the students would all love for is a place where they could:

(1) see a list of all their alumni with rich, updated detail for each (photo, name, degrees, workplace, year of passing out, hostel, work history, current location etc.), and

(2) search for them by company, location, industry, hostel, course etc.

If there were such a database accessible to all students, it would be extremely useful for projects, internships, placement, higher education support or guest lectures on campus.

Towards this, the Office of Alumni Affairs is undertaking a gigantic effort to identify the institute's 40,000 alumni, bring them all to one place online, and make them visible and accessible to the students.

And it is not a long-term process - by just the end of this year, the OAA wants to hit really big numbers.

Towards this, the OAA is taking the help of 100pins.com, a professional company that is also run by an IIT Madras alumnus, and that specializes in just this kind of work.

As part of this effort, the OAA also needs all of the students to join the community first. And for this I request you to help me (I am part of the team at 100pins.com that is working with IIT Madras with this initiative) to get all students of your department signed up within the next week.

It's simple - the students just need to go to:

100pins.com/signup/iitm

and fill up the form there (with accurate details). It takes just about 2-3 minutes.

I know that the department has several students across years - and across UG and PG. Therefore, I also request you to give me 1-2 contacts for every batch, who I can co-ordinate with to track students of their batches signing up.

I look forward to your early response. Please find attached a letter by the Dean which asks that this exercise be completed in a week from today, and be treated as high priority. We are working towards a steep deadline, and I would benefit greatly from your support.

Please sign up yourself, too, if you haven't already done that. Once again, this is the link:

100pins.com/signup/iitm

I look forward to your response. In summary, I request that you do these 2 things for me:

1. Instruct all students of the department to fill up the form on the link above, and

2. Give me the contacts for 1-2 representatives for each UG/PG batch of the department

Thank you for your time,

Regards

Saikumar
