4000/60 status? Especially SCSI!

Ok, now I'm confused. Some folks seem to be booting the DMASCSI kernel and
some people are talking about "SCSI support should 'just work'" and others
are saying, "as soon as it works the VLC will work too."

Here is a very simple question:
If I have a 4000/60 can I use its on-board SCSI
controller with the 1.4P kernel?
If not, when will I be able to?
