I already did a make build with the alpha on the same sources (supped 24
february), so I know they should compile without too much trouble. In
fact, it seems the previous snapshot already had a new-enough make (I
had to update it separately on the alpha).

Good. My VAX just seems to have crashed though, doing
dependall ===> bin/stty
mkdep -a -nostdinc -idirafter /vol1/rhialto/destdir.vax/usr/include /vol1/rhialto/sup/root/src/bin/stty/cchar.c /vol1/rhialto/sup/root/src/bin/stty/gfmt.c /vol1/rhialto/sup/root/src/bin/stty/key.c /vol1/rhialto/sup/root/src/bin/stty/modes.c /vol1/rhialto/sup/root/src/bin/stty/print.c /vol1/rhialto/sup/root/src/bin/stty/stty.c
and I'm not at home to reboot it (it doesn't seem to come back by
itself) or see the console. /vol1 is on NFS, by the way. So that will
be half a day's worth of extra delay.

Yes.

* Progress (n.): The process through which Usenet has evolved from

smart terminals. -- o...@burnout.demon.co.uk (obscurity)
So it hasn't crashed, I discovered, it had merely halted back to the >>>
prompt. It seems to do that a short time after I turn off the console
terminal, which is quite annoying. Unplugging the console first seems to
help though.

Yeah, powering off the terminal probably makes it look like its sending
a break.
