ESS 1868 PnP AudioDrive driver

Hi,
Is anybody using the ESS sound driver with a set of speakers and a
sub-woofer? Ever since the drivers were first introduced (in 1.4), I've
noticed that the drivers sound almost like they're shutting off my sub (I
know that's not possible but that's what it sounds like).
