Hi , I am actually pretty good with installing linux, but I decided to
give free bsd a try so for I like it, except the install procedure is a
little different than what I am used to. I have installed 3 times now
trying to get what I want to no avail. when I tell it to install
gnome+enlightenment for window manager and deskop environment, it tells
me that enlightenment is not on the cd. I have also installed gnome with
afterstep and what I get is a comilation of both, gnome and afterstep on
the same desktop, rather ugly combo. what I want is one or the other.
but the thing is it that both have things I want, but I still just want
one or the other. I can['t run gnome with out a window manager, but I
can run kde without afterstep. also when I get fdone with the
installation, there are sometimes no programs in the prgram groups on
the task menus, and start bars.....can anyone help me? thanks

That's your problem in a nutshell, there is only so much space on
the CD. The best answer is to install gnome and afterstep then get online
and install enlightenment. You can use /stand/sysinstall to do this just
by setting the media to FTP, you can also do this during install by visiting
the options menu.

I fear not with this, I use flwm and roll my own menu by putting
executables in the .wmx directory. I am still can't figure out
what gnome and kde are good for - but hey it's all taste. I like an
empty screen until I fill it with things I am doing and I just love
the arbitrary number of desktops.

There's one FreeBSD cdrom, 4.1 I think, that doesn't have enlightenment.
If you want gnome and afterstep without the configuration that links
them, install them from packages when you install (or afterward, by
running /stand/sysinstall) separately.

Then you edit .xinitrc and tell it what you what X to run when it starts.
