That's your problem in a nutshell, there is only so much space on
the CD. The best answer is to install gnome and afterstep then get online
and install enlightenment. You can use /stand/sysinstall to do this just
by setting the media to FTP, you can also do this during install by visiting
the options menu.

I fear not with this, I use flwm and roll my own menu by putting
executables in the .wmx directory. I am still can't figure out
what gnome and kde are good for - but hey it's all taste. I like an
empty screen until I fill it with things I am doing and I just love
the arbitrary number of desktops.
There's one FreeBSD cdrom, 4.1 I think, that doesn't have enlightenment.
If you want gnome and afterstep without the configuration that links
them, install them from packages when you install (or afterward, by
running /stand/sysinstall) separately.
Then you edit .xinitrc and tell it what you what X to run when it starts.
