I have tried the following drivers on the servers, none of which work, even though the printer shows a status of "ready" on the server: HP LaserJet P2035n Class, HP Universal Printing PCL 5 (v5.9.0), HP LaserJet 5Si. The reason for the 5Si driver is that is how it was originally set up on the print servers. The print servers were previously Windows Server 2008 and 2012 R2, and then the printers were exported and set up on the new 2016 servers. I suspect the 5Si driver is migrated from when it was set up on the older servers.

I tried the "HP LaserJet P2035n Class" driver that comes with Windows Server 2016. The printer is a P2035n. I'm not sure how I can get more correct than that. I looked on HPs website for a driver but the only thing I could find was an executable file to install all the printer software on your PC. No file with just a driver.

I just changed the driver to the HP Universal Printing PCL 6 and that did not work either. The job errors out in the print queue after I send a test page, just like with all the other drivers I have tried.

I am able to install a specific printer driver and the print manager shows the printer as "online". I just don't understand why I get that message that the device is not found on the network. I have been clicking "Next" to proceed beyond that.

2035 is GDI based (host based) printer and does not have a built in PCL interpreter. You need to use a PCL5e driver. The old HP universal print driver PCL5 is listed as supported but none of the other UPD drivers.

Thanks for the info. I tried the PCL 6 driver because someone here suggested that. I already tried the HP Universal Printing PCL 5 (v5.9.0) driver as well as the Windows Server 2016 HP LaserJet P2035n Class driver, before posting here, and neither of those worked. I just tried the following drivers that were on the server, neither of which worked either: HP Universal Printing PCL5, HP Universal Printing PCL5 (v5.4).

I am not understanding the reasoning for this. Isn't the legacy driver for someone printing to the printer from a different OS than the server? I am just trying to print to the printer directly from the print server (to get this working) and that doesn't work. I can't print a test page from directly on the print server. It errors out in the printer queue.

Believe it or not....As that printer is not an Enterprise grade machine, HP etc will try to phase them out especially when they have been EOL since 2015. One easy method is not to have support & new drivers for the later OS. So in a way, consumers (especially home & SOHO) are forced to get newer hardware every few years.

Not all features are available in all editions or versions of Windows. Systems may require upgraded and/or separately purchased hardware, drivers, software or BIOS update to take full advantage of Windows functionality. Windows is automatically updated and enabled. High speed internet and Microsoft account required. ISP fees may apply and additional requirements may apply over time for updates. See
